The Courier Traveling On ankgiving National Weather Service After a 30 year wait, the Gooding Senators finally reached the State Football Championship game last Friday to face off against the Emmett Huskies. The game ended in a 54 to 22 loss for the Sena- tors, but not without the Huskies giving up what is being called the “Touch- down Catch of the Year” by Gooding Senior Clan- cy Cockerham. About half way through the 3rd quarter, with the score at 35 to 7, quar- terback Wyatt Williams shot off a short quick pass from the ten yard line to connect with Cockerham who made a fantastic one- handed TD reception. There is a possibil- ity that Emmett will be moved back up to the 2A division next year. If so, the Senators may have a good shot at the champi- onship in 2016. Senators Take 2nd in 3A Championship Last Friday, November 20th, the the Campion Ice House in Hailey held its Grand Opening. Located next to the Blaine County Rodeo arena, the Ice House is non-profit, refridg- erated sports arena that will give year-round oportunity for skaters of all ages. The board of directors for this facility have been working on this project for over ten years. In 2010 the property was aquired, but funding for the facility fell through. en, beginning in 2012, several local families including Lynn Campion Waddell helped fund the completion of the covered skating rink. The general schedule for public skating is week- day afternoons, Saturdays (various times), and Sun- day mornings, however, Sarah Benson (executive director of the facility) cautions everyone to check haileyice.org for updated schedules as the Ice House will be hosting numerous hockey games during the next few weekends. e cost for public skating is $7 for Adults and $5 for Youth. Skate rentals are $5. Also, food is available at an on-site cafe serving breakfast and lunch items. In mid-December (weath- er permitting) a outdoor natural ice sheet will be set up inside the rodeo arena. Free loaner skates and gear will be available from 2:30 to 6 Monday-Friday, and from 10:30 to 6 on Saturday and Sunday. New Skating Rink in Hailey Cold and snowy con- ditions are expected in Southeast Oregon and Southwest Idaho Tuesday night through Thanks- giving Day as a storm comes in from the Gulf of Alaska. The storm center is expected to track south through Oregon, then east into Nevada. With that track... sig- nificant amounts of snow are possible in Oregon, and in Owyhee and Twin Falls counties. Only light snow is expected north of the snake basin in Idaho. Colder air will come in Thanksgiving Day through the weekend and any snow that does fall is likely to stay. As for return travel on the weekend, the situ- ation is not yet clear, as some forecast projections have snow re-developing over Idaho and southeast oregon while others have none. For safe travel pre- pare a winter weather travel kit and keep it in your car. Also travel with appropri- ate tires or carry chains for unexpected road condi- tions along your route.
