The Courier Elk Poached Near Thorn Creek Reservoir Idaho Department of Fish & Game officers are investigating a spike elk that was shot and left near Thorn Creek Reservoir. No attempt was made to salvage meat or antlers. This incident occurred on or before Sept. 15, before the any weapon season had opened. Thorn Creek Reservoir is located half way between Good- ing and Fairfield, about 3 miles east of Highway 46. People with information, leading to a conviction on these or other crimes are also eligible for a reward through Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) and callers can remain anonymous for both rewards. People can either contact CAP at 1-800-632-5999 twenty four hours a day, or call the Fish and Game Regional Office at 208-324-4359. As temperatures cool, people driving the highways of Idaho are encountering more collisions with wild game. So if you see an animal that has been killed by a car, can you take it home? The answer is yes, but there are some guidelines to follow · Before you claim any roadkill for sal- vage, consider the safety of yourself and fellow travelers. Always abide by traffic and safety laws. · Did you find or accidentally strike and kill an animal legal for salvage? Pick it up. · You have 24 hours to notify Fish and Game, and 72 hours to obtain a salvage permit. · You may report roadkill online at fis- handgame.idaho.gov or phone our offices to report. If calling after hours it’s impor- tant to leave your full name, phone num- ber, address and location of the salvage so a permit may be mailed. If self-reporting a printable permit will be generated. · Salvage permits are free. · Persons salvaging and consuming this meat do so at their own risk. You are allowed to recover upland birds and game animals, big game, furbearers and predators that are legal to hunt or trap. You may also salvage non-game wildlife that are unprotected. You may not recover protected wildlife and other species that are not legal to hunt or trap. For a list of species you can recover, goto: fishandgame.idaho.gov Thousand Springs Festival The 2014 Thousand Springs Festival will be held this Saturday and Sunday, September 27th & 28th, starting at 10 a.m. each day. Approximately 70 artisan booths will line the park, with exciting new work coming in from out of state as well as many old favorites. A num- ber of interesting history and information booths along with artisan demonstrators will have something of inter- est for everyone! As in years past, the festi- val will have live entertain- ment from around the region alone with a tasty variety of food and beverages. Admission is $6 adults, $5 Seniors (62 plus), $3 kids (5-12), and Toddlers & Infants are Free.
