ences Hank Williams’ cigar-store classic “Kaw-Liga.”But the bad times are documented, too. A piece of the bridge from that 1999
accident — caused when Jones tried to cue up “Choices” during a cellphone chat when he had been drinking — is encased behind glass. There’s an injunction against his long-defunct Possum Holler nightclub on Printer’s Alley, where his one-time manager, Shug Baggott, allegedly sold cocaine. And there are 13 “NO SHOW” license plates issued by the state of Tennessee, a reference to the nickname Jones earned by missing scads of concerts in the worst period of his addictions.
Those artifacts from his lifetime are just the tip of the iceberg in the mu-seum, an ambitious 144,000-square-foot undertaking that offers multiple f loors in tribute to the man many consider the greatest singer in country’s nine decades of recorded music.
“George had a soul and a feel to him that nobody else had,” said Moe Bandy. “When he sang, it was from his heart and his soul.”
In addition to a floor of exhibit space, the Jones museum includes a first-floor gift shop, filled with T shirts and the just-introduced White Lightning Moonshine, a tongue-in-cheek nod to his first No. 1 single. A restaurant will be added, and the venue includes a rooftop and a f loor dedicated to events with a panoramic back-end window that looks out over the Cumberland River and at the city’s NFL stadium, LP Field.
The museum is located on the same block as the Wildhorse Saloon, creating more potential foot traffic among such attractions as the Ryman Auditorium, the Johnny Cash Museum, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Bridgestone Arena.
“The Johnny Cash Museum is one of the four [most visited] tourist destina-tions in the state of Tennessee now, and this one down here will be the same thing,” predicted Rex Allen Jr., the son of silver-screen cowboy Rex Allen. “It’s a wonderful thing to have the heritage of country music someplace where you can really see it.”
Nancy Jones injured herself in the rush to meet the opening-day deadline. A drill fell from a 9-foot ladder and banged her head, requiring stitches. She broke two toes in the run-up, too. But in her husband’s final days, she had prom-ised to keep his legacy alive, and physical nuisances weren’t going to stop her.
The opening helped observe the second anniversary of his passing, April 26, and places the Possum on a street where visiting youth have a chance to dis-cover him.
“This is the most modern, hip, cool-looking place on Second Avenue right now,” asserted Bentley. “That’s cool to have someone that’s no longer with us, that represents something great about traditional country music, that probably a lot of kids are going to want to come out to because it feels cool.”
A host of visitors — including John Rich, Lorrie Morgan, Tracy Lawrence and Lee Greenwood — seemed to lend their approval at the opening party. But Nancy sought out one other viewpoint. That thumbs-up could only be implied.
“I went to the gravesite today,” she said in the final minutes before the doors opened. “I said, ‘Hey, I’d give anything in the world if you could see [the museum]. But I know you’re seeing it.’ ”

BILLBOARD COUNTRY UPDATE APRIL 27, 2015 | PAGE 5 OF 13
Dierks Bentley notches his lucky 13th No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated May 9), as “Say You Do” (Capitol Nashville) rises 2-1. The song hits the top (in its 30th week) with a 3 percent gain to 43.3 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music.
Bentley had last led with “Drunk on a Plane,” which began a two-week com-mand on the chart dated Aug. 30, 2014. Dating to his first No. 1 — his debut entry, “What Was I Thinkin’,” on the Sept. 27, 2003 list — Bentley boasts the fifth-most rulers (along with Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood). Kenny Chesney has posted the most No. 1s — 19 — in that span, followed by Blake Shelton (17), Brad Paisley (16) and Keith Urban (15).
“Say” is the third Country Airplay No. 1 from Bentley’s album Riser, follow-ing “Plane” and “I Hold On,” which topped the April 5, 2014 tally. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart dated March 15, 2014, becoming his fifth leader on the list, and has sold 319,000 copies since its release. Riser is Bentley’s second LP to yield three Country Airplay No. 1s, repeating the haul of his last album, 2012’s Home.
Top local audience contributors for “Say” in the tracking week ending April 26: KKBQ Houston (1.3 mil-lion impressions), KKGO Los Angeles (1.1 million), WKLB Boston (930,000), KILT Houston (917,000) and WUSN Chi-cago (896,000).
Meanwhile, Zac Brown Band doubles up with two impressive honors — on two charts. On Country Airplay,
“Loving You Easy” (Varvatos/Republic/Big Machine Label Group/Southern Ground) claims the Hot Shot Debut and Most Increased Plays awards, bowing at No. 30 with 7.8 million in audience. The song is the follow-up to lead coun-
try single “Homegrown,” which falls 3-9 after spending three weeks at No. 1. The songs introduce the group’s Jekyll + Hyde (April 28), along with rock radio single “Heavy Is the Head” (featuring Chris Cornell), which crowns the Main-stream Rock airplay chart with a 3-1 lift (and Greatest Gainer kudos). The track is Zac Brown Band’s first Mainstream Rock No. 1 (in its first visit to the ranking); the band has collected 11 Country Airplay No. 1s.
How rare is it for an act to notch No. 1s on both Country Airplay (which originated in 1990) and Mainstream Rock (which dates to 1981)? Zac Brown Band is just the second act to prove so successfully versatile. Bon Jovi topped the May 6 and May 13, 2006 Country Airplay charts with “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” with Jennifer Nettles. The seminal New Jersey rock band first posted two Mainstream Rock No. 1s: “Livin’ On a Prayer” (1987) and
“Keep the Faith” (1992). (In between, lead singer Jon Bon Jovi added a solo Mainstream Rock No. 1, “Blaze of Glory,” in 1990.)
“While we’ve got a great foothold in country music, that doesn’t encompass everything we do,” said Brown in 2013, after the group had begun collaborating with hard rockers Foo Fighters (fronted by Dave Grohl).
Also on Country Airplay, Brett Eldredge logs a lofty debut (his highest yet among six entries), as “Lose My Mind” (Atlantic/Warner Music Nashville) surges in at No. 34 (5.5 million). Speaking of blurred format lines, the song borrows from Gnarls Barkley’s 2006 pop smash “Crazy.” It introduces Eldredge’s forthcoming second album.

GOOD WORKSWhen Dierks Bentley last delivered a concert in Indianapolis, he brought the Riser Tour to the Klipsch Music Center in suburban Noblesville in September.
When he next plays the market, it’ll be a more formal affair: the eighth an-nual Celebration of Caring Gala held by NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. Slated for May 8 at the downtown Marriott, the event raises money for the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent.
Bentley’s just the latest in a line of guest musicians that includes Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan and John Mellencamp. Last year’s guest, Jake Owen, ended up performing “Folsom Prison Blues” with Manning.
Meanwhile, Bentley was expected to attend the 16th annual Best Cellars charity wine-tasting, which was underway at press time. Other announced guests at that benefit, which aids the T.J. Martell Foundation, include Eric Church, Jana Kramer, Martina McBride, Little Big Town, Brett Eldredge and Big Kenny.
TWEET OF THE WEEKBruce Jenner’s revealing interview with Diane Sawyer about his gender transition drew generally high marks, including support from Chely Wright (@chelywright):
“Dear @GeneralMills, Please consider putting Bruce Jenner back on the Wheaties box. Bruce has, once again, risen to the level of champion.”

BULLETSl Awarded on Country Airplay to titles gaining audience or remaining flat from the previous week. A song will also receive a bullet if its percentage loss in audience does not exceed the percentage of monitored
station downtime for the format. Titles that decline in audience but increase in detections will also receive a bullet if the total audience erosion for the week does not exceed 3%. Bullets are awarded on Country Indicator to titles gaining plays or remaining flat from the previous week.
TIESOn Country Airplay, if two songs are tied in total audience, the song with the larger increase in audience is placed first. On Country Indicator, if two songs are tied in total plays, the song with the larger increase in plays is placed first.
RECURRENTSOn Country Airplay, descending titles below No. 10 in either audience or detections are moved to recurrent after 20
weeks, provided that they are not still gaining enough audience points to bullet or if they rank below No. 10 and post a third consecutive week of audience decline, regardless of total chart weeks. On Country Indicator, descending, non-bulleted titles below No. 10 are moved to recurrent after 20 weeks.
HOT SHOT DEBUTAwarded to the highest-ranking new entry on Country Airplay and Country Indicator, respectively.
MOST ADDEDThe total number of new adds officially reported to Billboard by each reporting station, or by an automatic-add threshold (seven plays for the first time in a chart tracking week, according to Nielsen BDS) for stations that do not report adds.
MOST INCREASED AUDIENCE/PLAYSMost Increased Audience on Country Airplay and Most Increased Plays on Country Indicator list the songs with the greatest week-to-week increases in total audience or plays, respectively.
AIRPOWERAwarded on Country Airplay to titles ranking inside top 20 in plays and audience rankings for the first time, with increases in both plays and audience.
BREAKERAwarded on Country Airplay to titles achieving airplay (at least one detection) at 60% of reporting stations for the first time.
