ABOUT USSufra – NW London is a community food bank and kitchen, based in the London Borough of Brent.Over 24,000 children in North-West London grow up in severe poverty, living in a household with an income of less than £15,000 a year (Source: Save the Children). As a result, with rising food prices and stagnant wages, many children often go to bed hungry.

Our goal is to ensure that no one in the community is forced to live without food.

Our food bank provides up to 5 days’ emergency food aid to low-income families across NW London who cannot afford to meet the basic cost of living. Between October 2013 and December 2013, we’ve provided food for 1,500 people. In the next financial year, we expect to reach 10,000 people.

We recognise that a food bank, whilst desperately needed in the community, can only provide immediate relief. From April 2014 we are committed to developing projects that combat the root-causes of poverty in partnership with established agencies such as the Citizens Advice Bureau. These include:

a) A food academy for young people moving into independent accommodation and reliant on expensive fast foods;

b) Workshops for single mothers on eating healthily on a budget; and

c) A community market reselling surplus fresh fruit and vegetables which would end up in land-fill sites at no more than 25% of the retail price.

This Sponsorship Prospectus outlines how your business can demonstrate its commitment to the local community. Our sponsorship packages have been designed to reflect the marketing priorities of previous sponsors. However, we are able to provide tailor-designed packages that reflect your business needs.

Tom, who is Melissan’s 6-year old son, is regularly skipping meals

“I am a single mother. I left my husband after he started beating Tom really badly. If it was just me I would have stayed, but I couldn’t let Tom suffer like I did. Because I never did well at

school, I’ve struggled to get a job. I never had to worry before when I was with my husband. Now I have to work to put food on

the table but it’s really hard getting work that is only during school hours. In November I managed to get a part-time job as a

dinner lady at Tom’s school. I was overjoyed but when my benefits stopped and I was still waiting for my first pay check, we had nothing. I was seriously thinking of stealing food from

the school. You see, you can try and live without gas and electricity, but how do you live without food?”
