Westchester Community College is more than just the county’s largest educational institution. It is a living, breathing part of Westchester that goes beyond the influence of a typical college and affects the lives of all who enter its doors.
HistoryWestchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college.

The College’s Continuing Education Program runs swim/fitness classes for the Westchester
Community. About 500 people per semester are signed up for classes.
12. Condors Sports Association
Year-Round competitive swim program involving about 2000 swimmers. They rent the pool 5
nights a week from 5 PM to 9 PM. Host meets and other activities as well. This is the single
largest private organization that rents our facilities.
15. Croton Harmon High School, Horace Greely High School, Kennedy Catholic High School,
Scarsdale High School, Harrison High School
These high school swim teams use the pool 5 days a week from 3 to 5 PM in the spring and fall.
Approximately 100 students are involved. County high school swim meets are also scheduled in the
pool.

In Addition we host the regional play-offs for the NJCAA basketball, Baseball and Softball play-offs on a
rotating basis. The region consists of schools from Long island to the Hudson Valley. This year we will
also be hosting NJCAA District X Baseball Championships which will bring in teams from Virginia to New
York

Entertainment, and Movies."
In addition, the college utilizes the Gym for large student programs:
1. Student Involvement Day – Twice a year with more than 2,000 students participating during the
day
2. College Open House – Fall and spring – Prospective students and their parents are invited to
learn about College programs and services. More than 1500 people participate
3. Transfer Day – 125 Colleges and universities set up in the Gym to offer WCC Students
information on transferring to their school. More than 3,000 participants during the day.
4. Jobs fair – Roughly 50 Westchester Employers offering job opportunities and information.
More than 1500 students participate.
5. Scholarship Ceremony – 500 students and their parents and invited guests attend a evetn
honoring scholarship recipients. More than 1500 participants
