CARS WATERCOLORIST KATE HARTLEY EXHIBITON atNCARTs Second Floor Gallery Spring Exhibits
NorthCountryARTS looks forward to presenting the watercolors of Kate Hartley at the Glens FallsCity Hall's Second Floor Gallery from May 4-29, with a reception on May 21 from 5-7 pm. TheGallery is located upstairs at 42 Ridge Street in Glens Falls, New York.North River artist Kate Hartley is best known for her pear paintings and for the stained glass muralshe designed and created for North Creekʼs retaining wall. Kate is inspired by natural, organic formand by the interplay of shadow and light. Once she saw a pear sitting on a windowsill and it re-minded her of people dancing. The image led her to create the painting “Sometimes When IʼmAlone I Dance”. She continued to see human gestures and various interactions in the organic formand texture of pears. She interprets them as people, but they can still be enjoyed as pear still lifes.Kateʼs watercolors have won many awards and are exhibited at the Furchgotte Sourdiffe Gallery inShelburne, VT. and the Sorelle Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY.In 2010 Kate designed an Adirondack mosaic scene created in stone and stained glass on 180 ft.of a blank, cement retaining wall in North Creek. Van Goghʼs style of painting was the major influ-ence on this mosaic. The design illustrates typical Adirondack activities, rafting, fishing, and skiingamong others. Creating the mosaic was a community endeavor with over 300 people involved.Local students formed fish, leaves, skiers and other figures out of glass pieces the size of coins. Many adults also contributed. The mosaic now stands out brightly in the middle of Main Street.

AVOID CAR-SELLING SCAMS(NAPSI)—The Internet makes it easy to shop for thebest bargain on a used car—just remember, an offerthat seems "too good to be true" probably is.It may come from someone known as a "curb-stoner." These are illegal dealers who pose as indi-vidual sellers online and mostly deal with cars thatreputable dealers won't touch. You may see cheap prices but the cars generallyhave major problems you're not told about, such asflood damage, bad accidents or odometer problems. Some may even have a different Vehicle Identifica-tion Number (VIN), a trick used by thieves to hidethe true identity of stolen cars.Look for:1. Strange marks or scratches on the dashboardVIN plate or sticker inside the driver's side door.2. Any car documents where the VIN looks altered.3. Multiple VINs on different pieces of paperwork.4. The seller's name not appearing on car title orregistration. What to do: Shop online at a place like carfax.com.Every car for sale there comes with a free CarfaxVehicle History Report. Also have a trusted me-chanic inspect the vehicle and always see the carin person.
