The CPOA and CMD held their Monthly Board Meeting on Monday, 18 November. Please click here for a copy of the November Board Package.

The CMD started its meeting with an Executive Session to receive legal advice from General Counsel. Upon completion of the Executive Session, the CMD Board joined the CPOA Board to open the joint monthly public meeting.

After opening the public meeting(s) and approving the agenda, October payables, and regular/special meeting minutes, the Boards opened the floor to Public Input. Ms. Cindy Souply expressed concern regarding property owners, their guests, and potentially the general public, being able to access public hunting land from Cordillera – requesting the boards consider denying or severely limiting access. Staff and General Counsel advised as to the current policy/practices regarding access to public hunting land as well as access to Cordillera roads. The Boards requested Staff revisit/review the current policy/practices as well as ways to enhance communications regarding local hunting season(s) and the community’s interface with public hunting lands. Mr. Harry Lederman renewed his request for CPOA and CMD to have separate Legal Counsel to represent each entity’s respective interest(s) and avoid potential conflicts that may exist/occur. Ms. Angela Overy commented on the 2014 draft budgets, expressing concern over expense increases and requested the Boards ensure they closely review the proposed budgets (appreciating that the number of property owners has not appreciably increased). The Boards advised that they have had several budget work sessions, individually and jointly, to review all budget line items. Staff also offered to review the budgets with any property owners who may have questions or seek additional information. The CMD Board reopened its Budget Hearing from the October Board Meeting to receive public input and consider approval of the 2014 Draft Budget. Upon hearing no additional public comment and being advised by Staff of minor budget revisions since the October Board Meeting, the CMD closed the hearing and approved its 2014 Budget. In addition to the Budget Hearing/Approval, the CMD Board directed Staff to continue its diligence/negotiation in regards to a Property Purchase Request as well as approved renewal of the Bearcat Stable Lease, River Parcel & Ponds Management, and Eagle River Fire Protection District Fuel Agreements.

The CPOA Board reviewed its 2014 Draft Budget. Upon hearing no additional public comment and being advised by Staff of minor budget revisions since the October Board Meeting, the CPOA approved its 2014 Budget. In addition to the Budget Review/Approval, the Board approved renewal of the River Parcel & Ponds Management Agreement and a Vail Gondola Club Donation to the Vail Valley Foundation Black Diamond Ball. The Board also ratified a revision to the Rental Use Fee and purchase of tables/chairs for the Trailhead as well as a Memorandum of Understanding with Coldwell Banker to provide real estate/marketing services from the Cordillera Café. In addition, the Board also discussed Collections/Delinquent Accounts, Marketing Initiatives, and a DRB Appointment.

The next joint meeting of the CPOA and CMD is scheduled for Monday, 16 December, 8:30 am. All property owners are most welcome. For those unable to attend, a teleconference line is available to listen to the meeting. To access the meeting teleconference please dial 1-805-309-2350, when prompted, enter access code 325-6129. If you have any questions regarding the board meetings, please contact Mrs. Elizabeth Aviles, Executive Coordinator, at 970/569-6267 or [email protected].

Vail Gondola Club

With our sixth full season underway the Vail Gondola Club staff is genuinely looking forward to another great year and the arrival of our members, families and guests.

We are also excited to welcome back ski butlers, Justin Maguire and Nate Asoian for their third season of service.

Over the course of the summer we have been working hard on attracting new members. Thus far in 2013, we are thrilled to share that 19 memberships have been sold and 4 leases have been signed. Thank you to all members for your continued support.

For those of you who are not familiar the Vail Gondola Club is a private ski club located at the top of Bridge Street, in the Vail Village, just steps from the Gondola.

Join the FUN…..There are still a limited number of $5,000 memberships available. For information on how to become a member contact Joe Helminski at [email protected] or 970/343-2229.

Chair Four Now Seats Six

Not only is the Mountain Top Express (Chair 4) now switching its direction from counter-clockwise to clockwise, it now holds two more passengers per chair. Anxious skiers and boarders will now be able to get up the mountain much faster this season with the new lift allowing 3,600 passengers up per hour. That is a 33% increase from the old Chair 4!  The new Chair 4 acts as a human conveyor belt to move passengers along the loading area in a safe and more efficient way. The expectation is to ease loading and unloading and overall, reduce the amount of lift stops.

Fun facts about the new Mountain Top Express:

♦ Old parts will be recycled for terrain park use and other businesses in the area

♦ The six-person chair with conveyor belt is one of the first in the U.S.

♦ The lift line has been moved slightly to decrease cross traffic

Is Your Home Ready For Winter? - Water damage, especially from frozen and broken pipes, is the number one cause of property damage in Cordillera. Most of Property Owners assume that their heaters will automatically work and all will be well when the temperatures drop. Unfortunately, every winter a few homeowners learn that this is not always the case. At times Cordillera will experience sub-zero temperatures close to -20 degrees! Sub-zero temperatures test the insulation and heating systems in homes. Undetected broken water pipes can cause tens of thousands of gallons of water to go into a home! Click here for some helpful reminders and suggestions.

Healthy Forest Logging Project - The Healthy Forest Logging Project (a.k.a. Black Bear Logging Project) is complete for 2013. An excessively wet fall and early snowfall have prohibited crews from removing logs and chips until late Spring 2014. The trail closed signs will be removed this week. If you venture into this area please observe the signage and stay away from the stacked logs and chip piles. Winter Parking Reminders - Property Owners are reminded that there is no overnight parking on CMD roads during the winter so that Community Operations can plow snow. Please contact the Divide Gatehouse (970-926-2335) if you need help with overnight parking. Property owners who are planning parties are asked to contact Public Safety to arrange for parking. Public Safety would ask that parking be limited to one side of the road and that there be no parking on curves. Public Safety will help by placing cones to direct parking. Public Hunting Season - The last of the Public Land Big Game Hunting seasons ended Sunday, 17 November. Please be advised, mountain lion season is currently in effect and will last until 31 March 2014, which could affect the public lands adjacent to the Territories. We would not anticipate that Big Park are would be affected. We ask all property owners be mindful of activity related to public hunting seasons when accessing state or federal public lands. Exterior and Landscaping Lighting - We would like to remind property owners that with the exception of the seasonal display of decorative holiday lighting (between 15 November through 15 January, to be turned off by 10 pm), colored lights (between 15 December through 15 January, to be turned off by 10 pm), and small white lights in a reasonable amount of trees (between 15 November through 15 March, to be turned off by 10 pm), the use of exterior landscape lighting is not permitted. Spotlights, up-lighting of trees and landscape lighting shall not be permitted. We thank you for your adherence to the Cordillera Lighting Guidelines.

Please contact Mr. Bob Egizi, Public Safety Director, at 970/569-6261 or [email protected] if you have questions or would like further information.
