Page numbersNumbers that indicate the page and help navigate the magazine and keep track of the page so it can be found later.

Sub headings: A secondary line of text that appears after a headline, or a word or phrase that precedes a block of body text. The size, content and relativity can change the mood of the magazine and audience.

Main image/ star appeal (Richard Dyer): The area of a page that can be printed upon, surrounded by non-image areas, or margins. Usually this image takes up the majority of the page and depending on the type shot, lighting and angle it can decide the mood of the shot and whether or not a potential customer decides to buy the issue or not. The area of a page that can be printed upon, surrounded by non-image areas, or margins. In this image the Band ‘the Courteeners’ are featured on the contents page, this can allow for their group to receive attention from others and it can also bring customers or fans to the magazine if they are recognised, this can help increase profits.

Contents title: The list of a magazine's features and departments that appears as part of the front matter. Also called a ‘Table of Content’. There is also a web address here which takes you to Q’s publishers website. This gives visitors of the website a chance to subscribe to the magazine or contact a publisher for a complaint or otherwise. Having the ‘Q’ logo on the page also depicts brand identity.

Page number: Numbers that indicate the page and help navigate the magazine.

Stand first: A heading used to engage readers and attract customers before an article begins. This heading is usually the most bold text on the page and can also play a key role in attracting an audience.

Main image / star image: The area of a page that can be printed upon, surrounded by non-image areas, or margins. It takes up the majority of the page and helps readers relate to the magazine. Sometimes positioning and lighting becomes a key factor that can decide the mood of a photo and how the audience sees the artists or magazine. The main image denotes ‘Star Appeal’ (Richard Dyer) – the star will usually appeal to the target audience. Pull quote: A quote

extracted from the main text of an article and printed in large type on the page, frequently offset with ruled lines or other graphic elements. This usually entice the reader in to read the whole interview as they will want to find out more from the quote.

ConclusionWhat I am going to “repeat” (Steve Neale 1980) in my work:

Main Image – ‘Star Appeal’ (Richard Dyer)

These shots are appealing and relatable shots that allow an audience to see the artists positioning and clothing, creating an image in the mind of some fans favourite artists and how they act in comparison to other artists over the years. The main image attracts readers and potential customers if they see the image inside of the first pages while checking the contents of the magazine. Fans of the subject’s music or genre, may also make others want to buy the magazine.

Contents page masthead and its designThis includes page title, magazine title, date of release and website. As the heading is so basic and easy to understand, it allows for readers to navigate the magazine easily and this is something I like. The date and website are present in the header, it assists the reader and helps them navigate the publishers website and other content. This minimalistic style does not overwhelm the reader, nor does it make the information unreadable to the human eye. Because the web address was included in the magazine, it shows crass media convergence.

Regular House Style

This house style is basic and legible. This makes it more appealing to readers. It also makes it easier to navigate the rest of the magazine without struggle, this is because the page numbers are listed at the side and bottom of the page. The basic, simplistic style does not overwhelm the reader and it presents its information clearly and is easy to read. This simple style also allows the reader to see which pages to skip to for particular, specific stories and pages with ease. There is no struggle to find the correct page.

Stand first

I will make my stand first bold and a large font. Whereas I will make my subheadings the same size as my main coulomb’s font. This simplistic/basic style is appealing to the eye and allows readers to feel an overall tone for the article and understand the overall themes to the magazine’s article.

Pull quote The columns allows the audience to see the article, which could be difficult to read when all squashed in one place, without difficulty. The basic, simplistic style does not overwhelm the reader and it presents its information clearly and is easy to read. This simple style also allows the reader to see which pages to skip to for particular, specific stories and pages with ease.

I will also include a pull quote in the middle of my interview to try and entice the readers in – the pull quote will be a quote from the interview.

Main ImageThe image denotes a mid-shot which is something I want to use in my DPS. I like the use of instruments portrayed in the picture to highlight the genre of the band.
