Coil terminals are always in the correct positionThe coil terminations on CA 7 contactors can be supplied optionally at the top or bottom of the contactor. It is also a simple task to change this arrangement on-site should the requirements change. When CA 7 contactors are used in combination with KTA 7 motor circuit breakers the bottom coil terminations are used. When used with standard CT 7N thermal or CEP 7 electronic overloads the top coil terminals should be selected.
Advanced safety and reliability featuresThe entire CA 7 line features mechanically linked contacts, such that if a main power pole welds, adequate clearances exist (>0.3 mm) to ensure that the auxiliary contacts do not change state when coil power is removed and device tries to open. This is a requirement in safety circuits. Reliability is further assured by ‘cross-stamped’ auxiliary contacts, which provide multi-point reliability in low current, low voltage applications.
CA 7 contactors 4 – 55 kW
Mechanical interlocks save spaceOnly 9 mm wide, the CM 7 mechanical interlock snaps into place between any of the CA 7 contactors. You can also interlock different sizes of the CA 7 range with the same interlock. The basic mechanical interlock is supplemented by a variation with built-in N/C auxiliary contacts for electrical interlocking. This version is also only 9 mm wide and further minimises space requirements.
CA 7 contactors provide improved wiring terminalsThe main terminals of all CA 7 contactors are designed to accept at least two cables. At the same time they comply with safety standards regarding touch protection. The larger contactors CA 7-30 and upwards employ a special cage terminal which allows the connec-tion of two cables in separate chambers. The ease of wiring with CA 7 contactors saves both time and money.

CA 6 - A complete rangeThe CA 6 range of contactors is now available up to 860 amps in four frame sizes. The range now incorporates nine sizes from 55 to 500 kW @ 400/415 volts and 63 to 220 kW @ 1000 volts.
Electronically controlled mechanism (ECM)The electronically controlled mechanism has, with the release of the larger CA 6 contactors, been further improved. As well as providing the unique advantages of electronic coil control, the ECM version now includes a built-in PLC interface. These are identified with the suffix EI on the Cat. No.
What is “ECM”ECM stands for “Electronically Controlled Mechanism”. With the version EI, an electronic circuit regulates the voltage to the contactor coil. This is achieved using an ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) which precisely controls the pick-up and drop-out levels of the contactor. This provides decisive advantages for the user.
Q Very low pick-up and hold coil consumption (constant VA)Q No contact chatter because of defined pick-up and drop-out voltagesQ High contact reliability due to minimised tendency to contact bounceQ Built-in suppression circuitsQ Built-in PLC interfaceQ Wide voltage tolerance of coils suitable for 50/60 Hz (DC versions also available)Q EMC compatibility: (Note EMC is not to be confused with ECM. EMC means that the contactors
also conform to electromagnetic compatibility standards for noise emission and immunity)
Robust and versatileQ Rated up to 1000 voltsQ Type ‘2’ co-ordination with fuses or circuit breakersQ High thermal capacityQ High switching capacityQ Mechanical interlock does not increase overall widthQ Up to 8 auxiliary contactsQ Flexible busbars and mounting plates available for quick assembly of starter combinationsQ Choice of electronic motor protectionQ Plug-in voltage suppressors
Safety firstQ Arc chamber cannot be removed with the contactor energisedQ Contactor cannot be energised unless arc chambers are locked into placeQ Switch position indicator (manual operation of contactor not possible)Q Closed arc chambers prevent hot gases escaping. Safety distance in front of contactor not necessaryQ Touch-proof design using special insulated terminal blocks and terminal coversQ No cadmium or asbestos (environmentally safe)

CA 6-180-EI is a 90 kW (@ 1000 V) contactor with ECM
Unique
low power
consumption
electronic coil
system
Extremely low pick-up and hold-in coil consumption compared with conventional contactors.
The complete contactor for heavy industrial applicationsCA5 Series contactors provide large kilowatt performance with a design that is up to 40 % smaller than traditional contactors of this rating. The entire range is modularly designed for easy inspection, contact replacement and coil changeover. All maintenance can be performed from the front so that mounting can be accomplished with no wasted space on the sides.
Specially designed shock-free contact systemA characteristic of contactors in this size class is to transmit intense impact forces during operation. This is caused by the heavy magnetic armatures of the core, which can cause contact “bounce.” CA5 contactors, however, are designed so that the operating planes of the electromagnets and the contacts are opposed to each other by 90°. This results in a bounce-free contact system, increasing the contactor’s mechanical life and raising contact reliability.
Rugged and reliableA massive steel framework supporting the magnet system ensures high stability in all applications. Low-wear materials for bearings and sliding surfaces, as well as generously dimensioned magnet-pole faces result in above average mechanical life with a minimum of maintenance. Despite their rugged construction, overall contactor weight has been reduced considerably permitting simpler panel construction and easier assembly.
Unique coil “feeder group”offers many advantagesCA5-700 and 860 contactors are equipped with a special “feeder group” for the coil that accommodates AC control voltages of 50 or 60 Hz, and a wide range of DC voltages. This coil arrangement eliminates noise and provides very low pickup and hold-in current. In addition, the dropout time of the coil can be adjusted within one of three ranges.
Normal Drop (150 to 200 ms): for prompt reaction of contactor to a breaking command (factory setting).
Delayed Drop (0.5 to 1 s): where it is necessary for the contactor to be immune to short power supply interruptions or uncertain control devices.
Fast Drop (about 20 ms): for safety applications where instant dropout is required.
CA 5-450
Direction of main contacts
Direction of electromagnets (coil armature)
Modular, convenient designThe CA5 line is modularly designed for easy inspection, coil change and contact replacement. Maintenance can be performed from the front so that mounting requires no additional space. Even with the installation of mechanical interlocks and auxiliary contact blocks, the units can be flush mounted side by side, saving panel space.
A full range of CA5 accessories is available, including a unique mechanical interlock that allows vertical mounting of contactors (see explanation above)

CA 7-E Contactors and relays with low holding power, electronic coilSprecher + Schuh has expanded it’s successful range of CA 7-E industrial contactors and relays with a new low consumption coil. The 24 V DC coil with low power consumption is integrated in a small contactor body and draws less than 1.5 W/ 60 mA holding power. The CA 7-E range now replaces the CA 7-C range listed below.
The new design results in a lighter, lower depth and more energy efficient contactor, easy wiring and uniform panel appearance.
FeaturesQ Low consumption DC electronic coilsQ Coil voltages: 12 V, 24 V, 48...72 V, 110...125 V, 220...250 V DCQ Low contactor depth, same dimensions as AC devicesQ Meets IEC, UL and CSA standardsQ Common accessories for AC + DC contactors (except electronic timers)Q Reversible coil terminations (line or load side)Q PLC control without need for interposing relay
Notes: 1) All CA 7 coils can be reversed for line-load side coil terminations as required. 2) All DC contactors use AC contactor accessories. 3) All conventional coil contactors superceded 2013.Price Schedule ‘AA’

DescriptionSprecher + Schuh CAQ 7 capacitor switching contactors are designed for switching high inrush currents. The unique design utilises front mounted resistor elements, which limit the severe high inrush currents seen in single or multiple capacitor banks. This allows for a more compact and economical design without the use of air-core reactors.

Terminal links
Bridging links
General featuresQ Terminal links allow for larger wires to be used with CA 7 contactorsQ Enable external connections to be made without disturbing existing power wiringQ Ideal for star-delta, reversing and multi-speed contactors and startersQ Bridging links enable the use of smaller contactors on resistive loadsQ IP 2LX finger protection
DescriptionCA 7 terminal links and bridging links provide greater flexibility for the CA 7 range. The terminal links allow for larger conductors to be used on standard CA 7 contactors. This eliminates the need for power distribu-tion blocks on certain star-delta starter applications or where long cable runs make the use of larger cables necessary to reduce voltage drop. In addition, the use of larger wires can increase the AC 1 current rating of the contactor. The bridging links enable smaller CA 7 contactors to be used on single-phase resistive applications. By paralleling the three power poles, the contacts see only a portion of the actual load.

The CCA is a compact 22.5 mm wide starter accessory. It can be mounted separately on DIN rail, screw fixing or dovetail mounted onto the side of a CA 7 contactor. Although the starter auxiliary is designed for use with motor starting it can be used as a communication node (via DeviceNet™) for any application needing input/output monitoring.A typical application would be for a standard DOL starter. The ‘1’ output device would be used to switch the contactor coil circuit. The two inputs could be used to check the overload and contactor status. The ‘2’ output device could be used for reversing starter applications or two DOLs controlled from the same node. Alternatively it could be used in a single starter situation where more inputs/outputs are required.
