Greetings fellow Kochville residents from your Township Clerk’s office,

We hope you all are enjoying the fall weather.

As you know, next year is a big year for elections, and is fast approaching. The Clerk’s office is preparing for the upcoming season. There will be three elections for certain in 2020, and are as follows: March 10, 2020 – Presidential Primary Election; August 4, 2020 – State Primary Election; November 3, 2020 – State General Election.

There were changes with elections after Michigan Voters approved Proposal 18-3 in the November 2018 election. These changes can be found on our website in the elections section.

We are also looking for residents who would like to serve the community as election workers (inspectors) for the upcoming elections. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the election process and see your fellow Kochville residents. Election workers are paid hourly for working and attending necessary trainings. Interested residents can obtain an election worker application by clicking on the link in the elections section of our website. Please complete the application and turn it in to the Kochville Township Clerk’s office located at 5851 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48604.

Respectfully, Your Clerk and Deputy Clerk, Kevin Machata and Jamie Uptmor

Fire Department

As winter is approaching, we want to remind everyone of some key safety points. If you have any questions about any of these, please feel free to contact us at 989-792-7596.

• Have your wood burning fireplace inspected by a licensed chimney sweep. You can find a licensed chimney sweep at: www.csia.org

• Check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for proper operation. If your smoke alarm is over 10 years old, or your carbon monoxide alarm is over 5 years old, they need to be replaced.

• Make sure snow is away from any exhaust ports on the exterior of your house. If these become backed up, carbon monoxide can build up in your house.

• Keep generators at least 15 feet from any opening to prevent carbon monoxide from entering your house.

• Please help us with keeping fire hydrants clear of snow.

• Avoid using extension cords for permanent wiring. Also, please avoid from overloading your extension cords and surge protectors.

We also want to welcome our newest firefighters who started recently.

Autumn is upon us here at Kochville Veterans Hall! We hope all our community friends and neighbors had a wonderful summer and are enjoying the changing of the seasons.

Kochville Veterans Hall has had a busy 2019 thus far! Our community continues to put their trust in us and utilize our great space for a multitude of special events, ranging from graduation parties, fundraisers, weddings, and birthday celebrations, just to name a few. Our calendar continues to fill for 2020, and also into 2021.

This year, we have completed a round of facility upgrades that have included blown in fiberglass insulation to the entire building, exterior lighting additions and upgrades to existing fixtures, and interior lighting upgrades. These upgrades to our facility have proven cost effective in our operational expenses.

Code Enforcement CORNER

Winter is setting in quickly so please take a few moments at your homes and businesses to put away yard care tools, lawn mowers, and anything that you won't need for the winter. If you have leaf debris in your yards, please clean it up before snow freezes it down. This can cause numerous problems in the spring when your drains are covered and frozen with the January thaw. The DDA added new sidewalks this year to several areas along Bay Rd. and Tittabawassee Rd., so with the snow coming please make arrangements with your snow removal companies to keep the sidewalks clear and the fire hydrants accessible through the winter. This will help the fire department in case of emergencies, allowing them to perform their jobs safely.
