The biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes alive in the musical retelling. Joseph, the favorite son of Jacob, is blessed with vivid dreams that foretell the future. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, Joseph endures a series of adventures which challenge him to his core. A truly timeless Old Testament tale.

The God of Abraham PraiseThe God of Abraham praise, who reigns enthroned above; Ancient of Everlasting Days, and God of Love; Jehovah, great I AM! by earth and heaven confessed; I bow and bless the sacred name forever blest. The great I AM has sworn; I on this oath depend. I shall, on eagle wings upborne, to heaven ascend. I shall behold God's face; I shall God's power adore, and sing the wonders of God's grace forevermore. The God who reigns on high the great archangels sing, and "Holy, holy, holy!" cry "Almighty King! Who was, and is, the same, and evermore shall be: Jehovah, Lord, the great I AM, we worship Thee!"

St. Luke's Children's EnsembleSome folks dream of the wonders they'll do, before their time on this planet is through. Some just don't have anything planned, they hide their hopes and their heads in the sand. Now I don't say who is wrong, who is right, but if by chance you are here for the night then all I need is an hour or two to tell the tale of a dreamer like you.We all dream a lot, some are lucky, some are not, but if you think it, want it, dream it, then it's real. You are what you feel. But all that I say, can be told another way. In the story of a boy whose dream came true. And he could be you.I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain, to see for certain, what I thought I knew. Far, far away, someone was weeping. But the world was sleeping. Any dream will do.I wore my coat, with golden lining, bright colors shining, wonderful and new. And in the east, the dawn was breaking, and the world was waking. Any dream will do.A crash of drums, a flash of light, my golden coat flew out of sight. The colors faded into darkness, I was left alone.May I return to the beginning, the light is dimming, and the dream is too. The world and I, we are still waiting, still hesitating, any dream will do. Any dream will do. Any dream will do.

Joseph ponders the significance of his life.Brandon Adams, soloist

Close every door to me, hide all the world from me. Bar all the windows and shut out the light.Do what you want with me, hate me and laugh at me. Darken my daytime and torture my night. If my life were important I would ask will I live or die, but I know the answers lie far from this world.Close every door to me, keep those I love from me, Children of Israel are never alone. For I know I shall find my own peace of mind, for I have been promised a land of my own.

Just give me a number instead of my name, forget all about me and let me decay.I do not matter, I'm only one person, destroy me completely, and throw me away.If my life were important I would ask will I live or die, but I know the answers lie far from this world.Close every door to me, Keep those I love from me. †old testament lesson Rev. David PoteetJacob dwelt in the land of his father’s sojournings, in the land of Canaan. This is the history of the family of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his brothers; he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives; and Joseph brought an ill report of them to their father. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a long robe with sleeves. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him. Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they only hated him the more. He said to them, “Hear this dream which I have dreamed: behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and stood upright; and behold, your sheaves gathered round it, and bowed down to my sheaf.” His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to have dominion over us?” So they hated him yet more for his dreams and for his words. (Genesis 37:1-8)
