Concert Band Auditions – Spring 2022 Saxophone Audition Material Scales: in extended range (as wide as you can play) C Major E Major Ab Major G Harmonic Minor Scales should be played from memory and at a minimum of sixteenth notes at 60 BPM. Students should prepare the following material from Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, and Hindemith's Sonata for Saxophone (Londeix supplement). (There are five total pages to this document.) There will also be sight-reading on the audition. For Gershwin : Prepare each of the excerpts for ALTO SAXOPHONE 1 unless you are playing tenor in the audition (in which case prepare the tenor saxophone parts). It is recommended to play alto if possible. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you gain familiarity with the music from quality recordings as you prepare for your audition. You will have MUCH more success in your audition with aural experience in addition to work in the practice room. For Hindemith : Prepare the entire page up to whatever tempo you can play evenly and accurately. The maximum tempo is the indicated on the sheet music. If you seek out recordings of this movement, be aware that in many recordings, this material may be played by the piano (instead of the saxophone) at the beginning of the movement.
