FROM OUR PASTOR / DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Dear friends,
Please join me in welcoming the cool Season of Advent! I love this time of the Church year. There is so much to find and pray in the hopeful, joyful themes of Advent. Someone recently asked if there would be an Advent Re-treat this year. My answer is “Yes! The whole thing is a retreat.”
Take, for example, these three familiar words: “Come, Lord Jesus!” In our efforts to find and serve the Lord, these words can be very effective. They can be used as a prayer at any time and in any circumstance. I was just testing the practice recently when I had a particular need, a need for some peace in a troubling situation. I prayed the three words a number of times with some in-tensity and I immediately found some new hope. Give it a try. Let me know how it goes.
A similar idea came to me recently, one I have been going back to again and again, because I believe that He gave it to me. It is this: raising our minds and hearts by short Scriptural prayers is an important act of faith—one that will help especially when we are tempted against believ-ing or hoping. The Responsorial Psalm at Mass can be a good place to find such prayers, as I discovered again recently. Hearing the words “Praise the Lord, my soul!” led me to repeat those words again and again, which helped me to transcend another trying moment.
When our thoughts and feelings are all over the place, a simple prayer, spoken or sung, gives God the chance to strengthen our hope.
A blessed Advent to each of you!
With my prayers,
Fr. Matthew ZuberbuelerPastor
Queridos amigos,

This year we are asking for items for children under 3. Things we are most in need of include: winter clothes and diapers (specifically size 6).
Thank you for your generosity!

Since restarting the Campaign, we have received a number of generous pledges. The participa-tion of every household in the parish is critical for us to meet our goal of $4 Million. The parish family is healthy when each of us does our part, rather than expecting someone else to take care of everything.
Many of these projects and improvements will depend completely on your sacrificial giving. Please prayerfully consider the ways in which you would like to contribute to these improve-ments. Thank you!

If you need a suggestion, here are the words of Pope Francis, given during the Angelus in 2018: "Advent invites us to a commit-ment to vigilance, looking beyond ourselves, expanding our mind and heart in order to open ourselves up the needs of people, of brothers and sisters, and to the desire for a new world."
Check back next week for the answer to our next question:Q: What is the origin of the Christmas tree?
Q: What are your preparation plans for Advent this year?
HIGHLIGHTS
Knights of Columbus Keep Christ in Christmas
The Knights of Columbus offer multiple activities that promote Christmas and the season of Advent in their proper context: Journey to the Inn, Spread the Light of Christ, Crèche or Advent Wreath Blessing, and the Christmas Poster Contest. These programs are centered on the example of the Holy Family and the Nativity of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The new Keep Christ in Christmas (KCIC) Program brings all KCIC activities together under one um-brella. It encourages councils to prompt their neigh-bors to shift from a preoccupation with materialism to the light of Christ and the spirit of giving. KCIC activities include whatever efforts best suit the par-ish and community of a particular council and do not need to originate from the Supreme Council.
