Again, thanks to the following who have supported Community Service this past month, either by attending the sewing day on April 13, or contributing time and talent.

Be sure to say thanks to Chris Ginkens for her generosity. The sewing days would not be possible without her. Drop by Quilt Your Own and check out her services. Another sewing day will be scheduled for the summer. Date to be an-nounced!

Mary Goodman will soon complete her term as President and has asked that each member make one of these blocks as a goodbye gift. Mary wants her blocks to represent each one of you! So here are the directions: You will need: ONE 3½ inch square of white (or white on white or light beige or unbleached muslin or pastel solid so when you write on it, you can read it) fabric. TWO 2 ½ inch squares of a solid or print in your favorite quilt fabric, any color you’d like that’s different from the white. 1. Draw a line, corner to corner on the WRONG side of your 2½ inch squares. 2. Position a 2½ inch square in the upper left corner of the white square, right sides togeth-

er. 3. Sew along the drawn line. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the other 2½ inch square in the lower right hand corner. 5. Press the small squares away from the center to form triangles at opposite corners. 6. Trim excess fabric from the seam allowance so that only ¼ inch remains. 7. Iron a piece of freezer paper, shiny side down, onto the back of the block to make signing

easier. 8. Then, using a black permanent Pigma Pen, sign your name across the white diagonal piece on the front of your block. Feel free to write any message you like, but make sure your name is on there! 9. Bring your completed block by the July 16 guild meeting.

Do you have any 5-inch squares, 10-inch squares, or fat quarters you would love to use, but aren’t quite

sure what to do with them? If so, you might want to check out the book More Loose Change. There are

14 quilts in this book that are wonderful. I especially like the quilt called Crown Jewels. I’ve never seen

anything like it before. If you like to make flying geese, you might want to make the quilt called Golden

Goose. I also like Nickelodeon, Fort Knox, and Pumpernickel. If you would like to see what these quilts

look like, check out this book!! Great ideas for quilts for our upcoming quilt show! If you would like to

check out this book or any of our other fantastic books, email me [email protected] and I’ll bring it to

the meeting for you. Check out our library online: www.librarything.com/catalog/cpqgoftx.
