Board Meetings The district is governed by five elected officials who set the policy for its operation. The commissioners are elected to staggered six-year terms and serve without compensation.!!The board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Wilhelm Business Office, 626 Wentworth Ave. Committee meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 PM at the same location. Residents are invited to attend the meetings. For more information, please call (708) 868-2530.!!Special Recreation Services (708) 841-1071 x 233 · www.specialrecservices.com!!Special Recreation Services (SRS) is a collaborative effort by the New Hope Center Inc., the Calumet Memorial, Dolton & Ivanhoe Park Districts & the South Holland Department of Recreational Services. This cooperative offers programs for children & adults with disabilities. Programs are offered on their own, while some are in conjunction with regular park programs.

History The CMPD was established in 1922 as a separate governing agency for the purpose of providing programs and facilities that are of a quality that will enhance an individual's physical and emotional health, cultural and intellectual development, and fulfill a social need. The district is responsible for the maintenance, operation and administration of parks and facilities under its jurisdiction.!!Mission Statement The Calumet Memorial Park District strives to offer quality recreational, cultural and educational programming, which is cost effective for the community and inclusive to all. Through a well-trained, educated and empowered workforce, we aim to provide absolute customer service, a safe environment and superior parks and recreational facilities.

From the Desk of the Executive Director !We don’t often get the opportunity to say it nearly enough, but we would like to thank all of our patrons & volunteers for your support of our programs & of this park district. We don’t take it for granted & we realize that you have plenty of choices when choosing recreational, cultural and educational programming.!!The CMPD strives to be your Five Star destination for recreational & personal development. General Information • All program and activity participants must sign a waiver (parent/legal guardian must sign for participants under the

age of 18).!• All photographic, video or digital images taken by the district staff become the property of the CMPD. Those wishing

not to be photographed must notify the Executive Director in writing. Fitness Center Cards and Pool Passes require mandatory participant photos.!

• If you would like to be a part of the CMPD Volunteer Program, please call (708) 862-6443. Volunteers between the ages of 12 to 15 may apply to participate in our Junior Leader program. All volunteers must fill out an application form and are subject to a background check.!

• The Calumet Memorial Park District assumes no responsibility for personal injury or loss of personal property while participating or attending a CMPD-sponsored program or facility. No medical or accidental insurance is provided.!!

Policy Statement It is the CMPD’s goal to provide safe and enjoyable recreation activities for all ages, regardless of age, race, creed, marital status, physical/mental limitations or gender. It is the intention of the district to develop, plan, implement and administer a comprehensive loss prevention program. Public and staff safety is our greatest responsibility and in our assignments the health and safety of all are of the utmost consideration. This policy has been established to emphasize that effective loss-prevention is an integral part of management procedures to fully utilize the district's capital and personnel. Although profit is not a district goal per se, the same efficiency is desired to ensure maximum usage of each tax dollar.!!Americans with Disabilities Act No one will be discriminated against on the basis of a disability. The district strives to assure equal access to all. Reasonable accommodations in recreation programs and leisure services will be made for persons who meet the essential eligibility requirements of that activity. If you have any questions or special concerns, contact Charles Dockery, Executive Director, at (708) 868-2530.!!Vandalism The CMPD takes pride in the beauty and safety of our parks. However, each year our efforts are marred by vandalism, which takes its toll through higher costs of maintenance, repair and clean-up. Residents who observe vandalism are asked to call (708) 868-2530.!!General Park Rules • THINK SAFETY FIRST! If you find a piece of broken equipment, please call (708) 868-2530 and let us know so we

can correct any unsafe conditions.!• When visiting a park, please use common courtesy for the other participants & area residents.!• No loitering, profanity or gang activity of any kind will be tolerated.!• No alcohol, glass, littering, fireworks or golfing allowed.!• Pets must be leashed. Do not allow your pet into playgrounds, food areas, walking tracks or ballfields. Always clean

up after your pet.!• Driving unauthorized motorized vehicles through the parks is strictly prohibited.!• All city, state and federal laws apply and will be enforced. Persons causing property damage will be prosecuted and

made responsible for restitution.!• Parks close at dusk except for scheduled evening activities.!• Failure to obey park rules could result in suspension from park property and programs.

Burnham Greenway The Burnham Greenway is a joint project between the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, the Chicago Park District, the IL Dept. of Natural Resources and the CMPD to become part of the Illinois Grand Trail. Currently, the bike path is 2.5 miles long, beginning at State St in the north and running south to 170th St in Lansing. Please enjoy the Burnham Greenway this autumn! Remember to ride, walk and jog on the right hand side. And please don't litter. For questions call (708) 868-2530.

Indoor Courts Two locations - Sandridge Community Center & the Memorial Park Fieldhouse - offer indoor courts. The facilities feature plenty of space to play your favorite organized sports, from basketball to volleyball, indoor soccer to whiffle ball. Prices are below pictures.!!Small Hall The Downey Park Fieldhouse is available for certain small group family-type functions (baby showers, communions, preschool birthdays, etc.) of no more than 60 persons. Alcohol is prohibited. The resident fee is $200. Restrictions apply. Call (708) 862-6443 for complete info.!!Picnic Permits Most of our parks are neighborhood sites & group picnics are prohibited. Permits are issued for Veterans, Memorial & Commissioners Parks. The resident fee is $100. Restrictions apply. Finneran Park (with pool access) is $150. Call (708) 862-6443 for additional information.!!Meeting Rooms Small meeting rooms are available at the Sandridge Community Center on a limited basis. The resident fee is $25 per hour, non-resident $45. The Board & Staff of the CMPD strive to provide A quality park district that you deserve!

IMPROVING PARKS & FACILITIES !

DOWNEY PARK IS THE LATEST IMPROVEMENT PROJECT THAT WILL HELP US MEET THE RECREATION NEEDS OF OUR

RESIDENTS for years to come. Improvements will include a new

softball field, improved ball field spectator areas, a new picnic

pavilion, splash pad, tennis court, two half-court basketball courts, a small performing arts amphitheater with seating for 50 & a multi-use trail

with fitness stations. THE NEARLY $1 MILLION PROJECT is scheduled to be

completed later this fall.

INCREASING ACCESSIBILITY !THE CMPD BEGAN STEPS ESTABLISHING COMPLIANCE FROM THE MOMENT THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT WAS PASSED IN 1990. WE CONTINUE OUR DEDICATION TO MAKING OUR FACILITIES AS accessible AS POSSIBLE. The district RECENTLY COMPLETED AN audit of all parks & facilities & IS ADOPTING A transition plan tO meet new federal & State standards to make improvements for years to come.

activity.!• Registration is first come, first served...no spots will be held. You must register in person & pay in full.!• No prorated fees.!• If minimum numbers are not achieved, the activity will be canceled.!• Refund vouchers valid for most activities are given in the event registrants withdraw from a program &

must be done within the first week of the program or before. No refunds are given after the first week of the program. Trip refunds are not given.!

• If you drop out of an activity, a $2 service fee will be applied.!• No refunds will be given after the end of the first week of any program.!• If you have an idea for a program, trip or special event, please feel free to contact Thom Miller at

!Fall Into Fitness with the CMPD! CMPD fitness programs are designed to help you achieve your fitness goals. Whether you want to lose weight, increase your endurance or tone up those problem areas, there’s a program to help you build a better you!!!The fee for each of our programs is $25 per 6 week session for residents. Sign up for two classes at the same time for $40 & save money! For non-residents, the fee is $30 per 6 week session, $50 for 2 programs. All programs are held at the Sandridge Fitness Center & membership is not required to take a class. For ages 18 & older. Register by one week prior to the start of each session.
