On that date all participants have to have read 8 books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge list and 4 books of student’s own choice. (not necessarily PRC). At the end of the qualifying period the students who have succeeded will have their name forwarded to the Premier’s Department and medals are awarded to all successful participants. Our school has a very good participation record and it is important for all of us to have a 100 % participation and success rate. If you have books at home which you think may be on the list of recognised books then you can check this on their website: www.prc.sa.edu.au or talk with me. On this same website you will find games, colouring in posters and all sorts of goodies. Try it. Work on it together. It can be fun. During the month of May you can join the “Read Aloud More in May Challenge.” Parents or older siblings are encouraged to read out loud with the younger ones for at least 10 minutes per day. If you would like to keep a record of your daily readings I have some forms in the library which you can take home. The entry forms are kept at school in the library but parents can add/fill in any items on Wednesdays or Thursdays while I am there. Your child knows what the PRC is and most are eager to finish early. Your support and talking about it at home is a great opportunity to encourage reading. Principal’s Report Welcome to Week 2! Amy Taylor I would like to welcome preservice teacher, Amy Taylor to Springton. She will be working in Classroom 1 for the next four weeks as part of her third year practicum experience. Amy is studying through the Charles Darwin University. We hope she enjoys her time with us and learns lots! Cross Country Next week is Cross Country on Wednesday, May 17 at Angaston. Good luck to all our cross country runners. I’m sure you’ll have a great day. External School Review All state government schools are externally reviewed every four years. This process is to ensure high quality in our public sector education system. Springton Primary’s next review is coming up very soon from May 22 to 23. Two reviewers, Vonnie Dolling and Sheree Mader, will be visiting and spending time in the school chatting with staff and students and observing our systems and processes to provide feedback on how we are going. They would also love to have an informal chat with parents. If you are interested, please let me or one of the teachers know when you would be available on those two days. Biggest Morning Tea Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is on Tuesday, June 6 at 10:00am. We’d love to see as many of you as possible come along for a cuppa, scone and a chat! There will even be a raffle. Please bring along a gold coin donation to go towards breast cancer research. There is no requirement to bring a plate but if you wish to, it would be much appreciated. History Month History month is here. To mark the occasion, Springton Primary has joined with Friedensberg German School Museum to set up a history exhibit which goes from 1:30 – 4:30 on Wednesday, May 31 and is open to all. Our students have already been practising writing with old-fashioned pen and ink which they found very interesting! They have lots of questions for what school life would have been like for students between 1861 and 1913. They will use these questions as a starting point to design a model using the 3D printer as part of the Torrens Valley Partnership 3D Printing Project. Pupil Free Finally, I would like to remind everybody that Friday, May 19 next week is a pupil free day.
