The Finance specialization at SPJIMR is designed to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of theoretical and practical

tools necessary to face the challenges of contemporary times. Advanced courses in topics like Derivatives and Risk Management, Financial

Modeling, Corporate Valuation, Mergers and Acquisitions, Equity Research and Advanced Concepts in Accounting along with a thorough

grounding in more traditional topics equip the participants with the complete tool kit essential for today's finance professionals.

SPJIMR believes in “Influencing Practice” which is why the courses are backed by simulations in subjects like International Finance, Portfolio

Management and Derivatives where students play the role of traders and deal makers as they execute strategies based on their theoretical

understanding of the subjects.

In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum in financial management benchmarked with the best universities in the world, we at SPJIMR

strongly believe in the importance of industry interface for an all-round development of financial managers and leaders of tomorrow.

Regular guest lectures and industry interface sessions are organized wherin the best practitioners of the industry participate and share their

expertise in various sectors of finance and contemporary issues facing the world of finance.

The Finance Batch of 2012 consists of 45 participants having a mix of analytical and inquisitive minds bringing in with them experiences from

diverse sectors like investment banking, commercial banking, consulting, financial services and risk management. The batch has

participants with rich and versatile educational background with engineers from premium colleges in India such as IIT, BITS, NSIT and

commerce graduates from SRCC, LSR, St. Xavier's along with science and economics graduates. The fact that many participants are pursuing

professional courses such as Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Accountancy, Financial Risk Management augments the knowledge

and strength of the batch. A unique blend of participants with work experience and fresh minds in the batch accords a multi-dimensional

approach to them while tackling topics of financial interest.

SPJIMR Finance Academic Conclave: The annual SPJIMR Finance Conclave 2011 conducted a panel discussion on a topic of great relevance

in India's success story. The discussion was titled as “India on the Outbound Investment Bus: Frameworks for Financing and Structuring

International M&As”. The panel featured some of the most distinguished and renowned personalities working in the roles of MD, Director

and Vice Presidents for major organizations of the country. The discussion encompassed the challenges and opportunities associated with

M&As and answered many intriguing questions faced by the organizations involved in M&A activities. It was a great value addition for the

students as well as the corporate participants that came from different backgrounds and industries.

Finance Interest Groups (FIGs): There are interest groups, active throughout the year, which cater to the specific interests of the

participants. Various clubs under Finance Interest Groupsalong with their respective scopes are as follows:

! Investment Banking and Alternate Investments Club: The club promotes the study of recent M&A deals using different valuation

techniques. The scope of these studies includes understanding the intricacies of a merger process, identifying synergy benefits realized

from the merger, identifying challenges faced during merger and valuation of the deal. The club also encourages the study of IPO's, private

equity and venture capital investments, hedge funds, financial derivatives, debt syndication and various other facets of Investment

Banking.

! Capital Markets Club: The objective of the Club is to facilitate better understanding of the various facets of the capital markets. A

Collective Investment Scheme is managed independently by students, who actively conduct research in different sectors, follow the

index, analyze trends, and share views with each other. Such a platform gives them a feel of investing in the real marketplace and also,

raises the general awareness levels of the business environment.

! Banking Club: The club aims to sensitize its members on different aspects of Banking – Retail, Corporate, International/Offshore Banking

and the respective functionality of each in successful money management in other industries. Besides this, the members examine diverse

roles in Banking sector, prevailing trends in the sector and overall industry know-how.
