Neil is a former Ulsterrugby player and the former Head Coach of UlsterRugby.Hemadehisdebutasaplayerin1995againstNorthernTransvaalandwentontomake76appearancesforUlsterbeforeretiringin2005.Hebegan
coachingwhilestillaplayer,becominganUlsterBranchdevelopmentofficer in2000.FollowinghisretirementheworkedwithAcademyplayers as ahighperformance coach.He led theUlsterU19,U20and 'A' sidesandwasquicklypromoted to the senior set-upwherehe tookupa roleaseliteplayerdevelopmentofficer.Hebecamebackscoachin2009andiscreditedwithtransformingUlsterRugbyintooneofthemostpotentattackingsidesinEurope.HewasHeadcoachbetween2014and2017.NeilwillsharehisexperiencesofRugbyUnion’stransitionfromamateurtoprofessionalin1995andhowitimpactedonhimasaplayerandhistransitionfromaplayerathletetoacoach.NeilhasastrongcricketconnectionhavingrepresentedIreland32times.
Ed is a Skill Acquisition specialist coach and he has been working in elitesportforoveradecade.Hisprimaryfocusisondevelopingeffectivepracticesessionsanddrillsthatapplydirectlytogame-basedscenarios,whichathleteswill face. Ed hasworkedwith Irish Olympians, numerous GAA athletes andteams, tennis and basketball coaches,tennis, basketball and table tennisplayers.
Iain Brunnschweiler spent 16 years in theworld of elite cricket as a player,coach and programme lead. Having played professionally for HampshireCountyCricketClub,wherehebecameamemberofthecoachingstafffor6years.HemovedintotheroleofHeadCoachwithintheEnglandDevelopmentProgrammein2010,workingwiththeU17andU19squads.
The theme for the Coaching Conference is'Developing Team Cultures Through Coaching’andalongside the Keynote Speakers, we have coaches from around Ireland delivering both practicalsessions and workshops. These sessions will provide attendees with new ideas on coaching,challengeexistingthoughtsandreaffirmthegoodworkthatiscurrentlytakingplace.DeryckVincent(LCU/ClontarfCC),AndyMcCrea(NCU/TemplepatrickCC)andTrevorHamilton(NWCU/BreadyCC)Insight-Q&AwiththeNCUCoachesThissessionwiththeNCUCoachingteamwillprovideaninsightintotheircoachingjourneys–whattheir corevalueswhen it comes to coaching, theenjoyment factor for them,whatareas they findchallenging, and where they see coaching going in the future. There will be opportunities forattendingcoachestoaskquestions.Workshop-CricketIrelandCoachesAssociation–FutureCricketCoachinginIrelandThisisfeedbacksessionwheretheCricketIrelandCoachDevelopmentTeamwilllooktogaininsightsfromthegrouponwhat itmeanstobeacricketcoach in Ireland,thechallengescoachescurrentlyfaceontheground,whatareascoachesbelieveCICAcould/shouldprovidefurthersupport,andhowcoacheducation,coachdevelopmentandthecoachingpathwayshouldbeshapedforthefuture.
Insight-DevelopingClubYouthStructuresandCulturesThisworkshop is aimed at youth coaches at school and club. Thosewho coach at grassroots anddevelopment levels know the challenge of making sessions fun, novel, safe and challenging. Thispracticalworkshopwillprovide ideas,practical toolsonhowtoachievethis.Coachesfromclubs inthe country with strong youth sections will lead the session and give opportunities for attendingcoachestoshareideasandexperiences.Workshop-IdeasforJuniorClubPracticeSessionsCricket Ireland Coach Developers will run practical sessions using local junior players. Leadingdifferentdrillsandgamesthatcoacheswillbeabletoapplytotheirownyouthcoachingsessions.Arangeoffixed,variableandgame-basedpracticeswillbeshowcased,asexamplesof‘goodpractice’thatcanbeappliedatanyschoolorclubinordertodevelopskills,beenjoyable.Whilstalsoworkingonthetactical,mentalandphysicaldevelopmentofyoungplayers.PracticalWorkshop-WarmUps,MatchPreparationandExplosiveFieldingDrillsThisworkshoplooksathowplayersprepareinordertotrain,playandexecutetheirskillstothebestoftheirabilitiesandreducetheriskofinjuries.Warmupsarekeyelementsofallcoachingsessionsand the guest coaches will provide attendees with practical tools on how to prepare players formatches using ‘RAMP’ and a range fielding drills to increase intensity and get themind and bodyreadyforplay.Workshop-RunningaSeniorClub/PerformancePracticeSessionThis practical session will introduce coaches to different options that are available when runningseniorcluboryouthorseniorperformancepracticesessions.Arangeofdrillsandexerciseswillbesetupbyguestcoaches,usingbothnetandopenpractice to improveskills, challengeplayersandprepareplayersforspecificmatchscenarios.PracticalWorkshop-BringingSkillAcquisitiontoLifeDrEdCoughlanisrunningthispracticalworkshopforattendingcoaches,inordertoaddvaluetohiskeynote presentation. Ed is a specialist in helping players and teams learn new skills and alsochallenge these skills and put them under pressure as well. Ed tests the visual and cognitiveawarenessofplayersbytryingtooverloadthe ‘senses’.ToolsthatEdrusesare ‘occlusiongoggles’,whichhelpimproveplayer’sawarenessandanticipation,byreducingtheirfieldofvision.PracticalWorkshop-MakingSessionsFunandChallengingforAllAt the core of his practical session will be his keynote presentation on Long Term AthleteDevelopment, which is making sure that sessions are applicable for all, especially in theDevelopmentalstageofplayerpathwaysaspeopledevelopphysicallyandmentallyatdifferentagesandstages.
