1 The words of Amos , who wasamong the shepherds of Tekoa,which he saw concerning Israel in thedays of Uzziah king of Judah and inthe days of Jeroboam the son ofJoash, king of Israel, two yearsbefore the earthquake.

Jerusalem; the pastures of the

shepherds mourn, and the top of

Carmel withers.”

THE NAME, HOME, OCCUPATION, CHARACTER

• His name means “Burden-bearer”

• He lives in the village of Tekoa, a very rugged area near the wilderness of Judea

• He is a sheep-breeder and a tender of sycamore fruit

• He is not known for his sympathy or warmth, but for his for his sense of justice and right
