YOURFUTURE

Off-Campus Work Permit

International students studying in full-time academic

programs are eligible to apply for an Off-Campus Work

Permit which allows students to work a maximum of 20

hours per week while attending school.

Post-Graduation Work Permit

Once students have completed their Canadian program,

they may apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit which

will permit graduates to remain in Canada and work in

their fields for a maximum of three years.

Co-operative Education and Internships

Co-operative education enables students to connect

their classroom studies to the real world by gaining work

experience related to their program area. Co-op students

function as employees of the co-operating employer

organization and are normally paid at market rates.

Students pay tuition and receive college credit for the

work term, and they are required to submit assignments

demonstrating their achievement of academic, profes-

sional, and personal learning objectives. Studies show

that co-op students enjoy higher academic achievement

and motivation and graduate with higher employment

rates and earnings.

There are a number of ways international students can

get employment experience as a part of their international

education. Find the right opportunity to suit your program

by talking to your Academic Advisor!

TRADES & TECHNOLOGY

Camosun technology programs focus on both employability and

preparation for further studies. By completing a Camosun diploma in

an engineering technology or computer discipline, students receive

hands-on relevant applied skills that are in demand in the workforce.

Each program offers the opportunity for students to complete a

co-operative education or internship during their program which

promotes real-world application of the skills obtained in the program

and aids in obtaining employment post-graduation.

Civil Engineering TechnologyThis diploma program will stress the use of microcomputers in the

solution of civil engineering problems. Students are introduced to

computer-aided-design and drafting techniques and computer-based

design systems for urban planning, structures, highways, water and

water/waste management and all aspects of project management.

Surveying on state-of-the-art equipment is also included.

Computer Systems Technology DiplomaThe principles taught include problem definition, analysis, design,

selection and implementation, decision-making and continued

maintenance, diagnosis and improvement of the resulting hardware

and software solution. The Computer Systems Technologist will be

self-sufficient in a small system environment and be effective in a

larger enterprise.

Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology –

Renewable EnergyGraduates will have a broad knowledge of both electronics and

computer engineering systems that enable them to embrace high

technology in all its forms, as well as support industry in maintaining

current products and systems and in creating the products of the

future. Students will also take courses in the control and drive systems

of electrical motors and will directly apply electronics technology to

the renewable energies area.

Mechanical Engineering TechnologyThis program is designed to produce graduates who have a broad

knowledge in science and engineering as they apply to the design,

development, manufacture, marketing, operation and maintenance

of machines and mechanical devices. The program culminates

with students working in teams to conceptualize, model, fabricate,

assemble and document a mechanical project which is then publicly

showcased and demonstrated.
