Church of the Holy Trinity Youth Ministry Thoughts of the Pastor… In the Gospel of St. John we have the account of disbelief of St. Thomas. The Old Testament prophesies, the empty tomb, and the testimony of the other disciples, “We have seen the Lord.” are insufficient for him to believe that Jesus is risen from the dead. Thomas tells the others that he will not believe unless conditions he demands are fulfilled, namely, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” When Jesus appear to him and the other disciples eight days later, upon seeing the Risen Lord, and not actually putting his finger into the nail marks or hand into his side, St. Thomas makes the ultimate profession of faith in Jesus, “My Lord and my God!”

In this passage, we are reminded that St. Thomas is also called “Didymus,” which earlier in the Gospel we are told means “twin.” The twin to St. Thomas “are those who have not seen and have believed.” We are those who are blessed, because we have not seen and have believed.

Yet, are we also like St. Thomas and set conditions on our belief? We will believe or only continue to believe if our life and faith are comfortable? Do we insist that God provide us no cross, no difficulty, no sacrifice for our continuing to believe? Do we condition our faith on God doing what we direct God to do, in the way we want God to do it, when we want God to do it? Do we require God to do everything so that we have to do nothing? Do we want God’s love, but not to have to change? Do we require that we have to be able to understand, and only then being willing to believe? And if God should ask of me something I am unwilling to give, do I walk away?

What enabled St. Thomas to put his conditions for belief aside was the encounter with the Risen Christ. We do so in our baptism, in our incorporation into the Body of Christ, the Church, in the Eucharist and other sacraments, and in the Sacred Scriptures and teachings of the Church. But, do we allow ourselves to actually experience Jesus in these ways, or do we set limits and allow ourselves to be distracted by the busyness of life? Let us be like St. Thomas, and allow ourselves to encounter Christ. Father Tom

We need you! Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Lectors and Ushers: If you have been inactive in your ministry this past year and are ready to start serving again, we

would love to hear from you! We have relied on a small number of volunteers who have generously given their time to keep our parish running and it would be nice to get more people back on the schedule. Please call or email Laura M. and let

her know that you are ready to rejoin the ministry team. If you haven’t served before but are interested in a ministry, please contact Laura M. at [email protected].

pandemic, some are skipping spring break and finishing up earlier than usual. We ask parents to let us know the students’ names, addresses and dates they begin finals. Donations are also needed for the care packages and

can be dropped off at the parish office between now and April 13th. We also send packages to active duty military members. Please let us know if you have a military member that is away from home and could use a care package! Email information to

[email protected] by April 13th.

Have you ever wondered why we do what we do and say what we say during Mass? Join us in the Church at 4:00 pm on April 18th for a Teaching Mass celebrated by Fr. Tom. A Teaching Mass is a liturgy with commentary on where we get the different parts, actions, and responses from. The Mass is one of the greatest encounters we will have with Christ while we are on earth, and each action and response in the liturgy allows us to participate more fully in that encounter. This Mass is open to all.

Everyday Stewardship

Eye Has Not Seen: They say seeing is believing. But if you’ve ever ordered a pair of pants online, you know that’s not always the case. Whatever the photos promise us, what looked like a perfectly nice shade of navy blue on our computer screens comes in the mail as an unusual shade of blue green that only appears in the giant box of Crayola crayons.

The Apostle Thomas, who couldn’t bring himself to accept that Jesus had risen from the dead without seeing him, is such an utterly relatable figure in the Gospels. Thomas is still reeling from a loss — not only of his good friend but his Lord, who was taken prisoner and crucified before his eyes. Thomas is guarding himself. He’s not believing the hype. He’s going to be the only judge of what is real and what is fiction.

Would any of us be any different? We’ve all had those thoughts. Can we believe it all — Jesus, salvation history, the Eucharist — when we haven’t seen it with our own two eyes?

That’s when we need to remember that those two eyes were absolutely positive they had ordered a pair of navy blue pants.

It’s easy for us to sit back stroking our chins in judgment at Thomas, “you didn’t believe the testimony of your friends!” But do we accept the testimony of our friends? The saints, the popes, the Church fathers themselves?

Sometimes the things that are most worthy of believing can’t be seen with the naked eye.

— Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS ©LPi

Open Enrollment: The Department of Health and Human Services, through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has opened a Special Enrollment Period for individuals and families for health insurance through Marketplace coverage. This is in response to the circumstances of the Pandemic which led to millions of Americans facing the uncertainties of unemployment and lack of health insurance. This Special Enrollment Period opened up on February 15, 2021 and will end May 15, 2021. The Navigators with Enroll Wyoming are actively setting up meetings statewide in the effort of signing up consumers needing affordable health insurance. Call to set up an appointment: Dasa Robertson 307-214-0786, Cynthia Nunley 307-274-2312, 1-888-425-7138 or call WY 211 by dialing 211.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) by IRS Certified Volunteers are available to prepare 2020 income tax returns at no cost for those taxpayers who do not have the money to pay a paid professional. To qualify for help, the total of your income should not be more than approximately $57,000 to $67,000 (for a family of 5). http://wyomingfreetaxservice.org/

Update on Celebration of Mass: With the declining infection rate and hospitalization and with the increasing number of vaccinations, we are able to have fifty percent (50%) capacity in the church for Masses. While this will not allow 6 feet of distancing between households, we do encourage household to spread out as much as possible. Face masks for those 3 years old or older are required

unless there is a medical reason not to wear one. If someone is sick, they should stay home. For those unable to attend in person, the dispensation from the Sunday and Holy Day Obligation is in effect through June 30, 2021. (Read the full decree at: https://dioceseofcheyenne.org/the-living-church-in-a-time-of-crisis-covid-19) We encourage those who have not been vaccinated to receive a vaccine. Being vaccinated not only promotes our personal health but also the health of others in the community, especially the most vulnerable. The more people who receive vaccinations, the more safely we can gather and celebrate.
