From the Pastor’s Desk
In today’s readings, we hear about two different names for our Lord. We know his foster father, Joseph, gave him the name Jesus, which means “God saves.” Jesus indeed saves us – from our loneliness and brokenness, our shame and despair. By his life, death, and resurrection, the Son of God has offered us love and wholeness, dignity and hope. And this offer is continuously extended to us every single day. We simply need to remember the Messiah’s other name, Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” It is altogether impossible for our Lord to abandon us. He cannot help but reach into our troubles and grant us the gift of his abiding peace. In this fourth week of Advent, as we make our final preparations for Christmas and New Year, let us keep in mind that our Savior is still working out his unique plan of redemption for each one of us. Let us not become overly distracted by the clamor of the holidays, but rather allow his saving presence to permeate our lives.
May the Lord bless you throughout the week.
Father David Schalk Answer to last week’s question: The rose (pink) candle lit on the third Sunday of Advent symbolizes joy. This week’s question: You can see the star of Bethlehem in our church year-round. Where is it?
The Sisters’ Corner

(This event is in Spanish.) Next Saturday, we will have a Christmas Eve dinner in the basement following the 6:00 p.m. Mass. All are welcome. Please join us as we celebrate the birth of Christ! (This event is bilingual.)
