Time never stops - it ever flows; the future rushes towards us to become the present, and moment by moment it merges with the entire past. In this river of time you and I stand, work and achieve.
With eyes fixed on the goal, to strive on in the present, becoming the architect of the future, is ‘creative living’. In this we employ Time. We are the masters of Time.
To live weeping for the past, wasting the present moments, shuddering with imaginary fears for the future, is self- destructive ‘suicidal living’. In this, Time employs us. We then become the slaves of Time.
Surrender to Him all your regrets and fears, and work with blind audacity for Truth, in Truth, with Truth.

Salutations to Shri Swami Tapovanam, who is
Maheshwara, the Lord of Saumyakashi, ever awakened
to that Truth which is purer than the purest. He is the
Lord of the universe and also transcends it. He is ever
blissful, revelling in the all pervading supreme
Brahman. He is the essence of Vedanta and the refuge of
people (seekers) with pure intellects. He is the One
(without a second), the controller and the indweller of all
beings, the Master of all and the very Self of all beings.

Hari Om !
Sri Shyam Sundar Kejriwal, fondly known as Kejriwalji, had been
attached with Chinmaya Mission Kolkata as Life Member and Chief
Incharge of Seva Project, a long time Executive Committee member and
above all, a true Chinmaya Devotee.
He passed away on 24th November 2020 at his residence aged about 82
years after prolonged illness due to age.
He was instrumental in founding a forum of SEVA Acivities in Chinmaya
Mission, Kolkata which consolidates philanthropic actions of devotees and
directs them to the deserving. Started many years back with providing
nominal breakfast to poor children attending a primary school in a bustee,
it has now grown further to help few of the grown-ups also enabling them
to earn a decent livelihood.
He also started Scholarship Scheme with School Fees, Books, etc. for the
meritorious and underprivileged students across the city. Above all, he
was always ready to contribute and organize Seva work as and when
needed.
In his demise, Chinmaya Mission Kolkata has lost a very valuable
member. We pray for his soul to rest in peace.
We, on behalf of Chinmaya Family, send our deepest and heartfelt
condolences to your family members and pray to God that his soul gets
sadgati and rest in peace and all family members get strength to bear this
irreparable loss in the hour of grief.
OBITUARY
Disciples are always fools;
they will never be able to see
and understand a master in
action. They look at it from
their shallow intel lectual
brilliance. Masters are deeper
than that; they cannot be

It was in utter vairagya that
Swami Tapovanji Maharaj
lived every moment. But even
that refers only to the gross
externals; that was not He. He
was the pure Brahman itself. At
least to me he was…
He was always a recluse; he
always shelled himself in and
did not want anybody to
disturb him. Therefore, when I
reached him, as the darkest,
dreariest, stupidest fellow that
ever was, he in his own way,
with his own light touches,
carved out of that fellow what I
am now. So I thought that I
must unveil Him and His glory,
his vibhuti in the hearts of
others. I am not talking about
ex te rna l de ta i l s - Swami
Tapovan Maharaj was from
Kerala, he was a Sanskrit
scholar and so on. That is not

CHINMAYA VANIDECEMBER 2020 14
We call her Mother Nature because as
much as she nourishes us, she also
disciplines us - when we forget that
we are not alone on this planet; when
we forget the need to coexist with
other species harmoniously. Some-
how, Nature puts us back on the right
path towards balance. But not
without a stern rebuke - so that we
mend our ways and don't forget.
The virus crisis can be viewed as one
such painful reminder from the
Mother to her children. A reminder of
how we are all misusing the planet, of
how vulnerable we ultimately are and
how important it is that we lead lives
of greater substance, recognising our
interconnectedness and vulnerabili-
ties and lifting ourselves so that we
can, in turn, help others.
So, what specifically can we do? Have
deep faith. Know in your heart that if
there is a Lord or Bhagavan, every-
thing that happens, no matter how
painful or incomprehensible, can
only be for the best. At the same time,
cultivate clarity, exercise common
sense - even as you practice spiritual
sense.
Chant, Pray, Follow, Serve
Yes, it is indeed true - naase rog hare
sab peera (diseases will run away, all
pains will be gone), as it is said in
Hanuman Chalisa. These wonderful
chants can help send out vibrations
to purify the atmosphere, to purify
our minds and by that eradicate
anything that can be harmful to us.
But also remember, God is always
there supporting us. But we should
do our best. As Shri Krishna says in
Have Faith, We Can Change, WE MUSTSwami Swaroopananda
CHINMAYA VANIDECEMBER 2020 15
the Gita, “Man must lift himself by
himself,” Hence, follow the guide-
lines given by the government. Take
this opportunity to think and reset
priorities. Learn to appreciate
Oneness in Nature, in both the
philosophical and practical sense -
because if it is affecting all of us so
readily and badly, it cannot do so
without an underlying commonality.
Think …
Above all, continue to serve, not by
ignoring the directive of social
distancing, but by radiating, from
wherever we are, positivity and
goodwill to all - sincerely, evenly,
consistently. Work and pray not just
for ourselves, but for everyone
across the earth.
sarve bhavantu sukhinah
sarve santu niramayah
sarve bhadrani pashyantu
ma kaschid dukhabhag bhavet
Let everyone be happy! May everyone
be free of disease. May we see love,
purity , auspiciousness spread
everywhere. May no one have to
suffer.
Abide in the spirit of sadhana which
if you analyze, it is what makes every
action a true service. There is
nothing for a devotee to fear, if his /
her understanding is clear. Isvara’s
and Pujya Gurudev’s blessings are
with everyone. And together, we
shall come through the current crisis
in no time.
Remember, uncertainties in life are
guaranteed! But how to respond to
them is always your choice. May you
respond in ways that keep you safe,
that lead spiritual strength and
prosperity.
Hari Om.

The Ditty of the Unknown KnowerVikram Murarka
Run, run, run, to the comfortOf the things that are known,
Of the things I can see,Of the cars, clothes I own.
The unknown is so fearsomeI don't wanna go there.
Living in the comfort o' the knownThat is all I can dare.
But, beyond the Known-Unknown
Is the Knower to explore.Wonder what he has with him,
What wonders are in store?
The Known-Unknown are outside,The Knower is in me.
Man, that's a hell of a statement,Is there someone else in me?
This has to be reconciled,It's the Knower or it's me.
There can't be two guys here,I mean,
How can that ever be?
So one of us has to go,It's the Knower or it's me.
But if the Knower goes away,Who is gonna know me?
If there's no one to know me,
I might be lost unknown,And I could never bear that,
I have this need to be known.
So, I guess the Knower has to stay,And, I'm the one to go.
But, suppose I'm the ruddy Knower?Maybe that's the way to go?
Time.... to Think
Time is something which
Passes off at the wink of eyes
Time and Tide wait for none is the proverb
Which clearly proves an opportunity lost or gained
A stitch in time saves nine adds to the above
Lost time never returns
So grab the opportunity
To step ahead, serve
Be courageous to achieve
By nature we brood over negativity
But do we realise the
Missed moments of positivity
As a child we have aims in life
But when we grow we may miss out on aims
So what do we do?
Is that the end?
No....just remove the inferiority and fear
Move ahead with positivity
Doors are always open
Faith in Almighty will not fade
God helps those who help themselves
As we strive and struggle
Challenges paves way for success
Cultivate confidence, motivate yourself
With positive thoughts
Live every moment
For welfare of self and others
Time is precious
So be gracious.

Whatever I ask for
You give to me
Without hesitation.
No questions asked
No reasons needed.
And I continue
The pleading and pleasing.
For what - one may say?
Of course it is for
The one thing only
Which the entire mankind
Is in search for.
Happiness - the unending one
The continuous line upwards
The bliss.
I ask for wealth
You shower me with it
I ask for fame
You bestow me with it
I ask for love
You engulf me with it
Yet something is amiss.
Always missing.
And then it happens
I see that smile
On Your lips
Moving on the bamboo
Filling my ears
With the sweetest of melodies.
I smile too
And then I cry
I sob
I wail.
Oh what a fool
What a delusion
I have been in.
Looking everywhere
Except where it is
Overflowing In abundance.
In You!
In You!
Now I ask You
Only for one thing
And that is You.
I want You
Only You
Nothing else matters
It has always been You
I have been searching for.
Take it all
And just give me You.
Oh please.
Oh please.

Our mind is a flow of thoughts
A seat of emotions of different sorts.
It is a good servant but a bad master
It can do good to us or do a disaster.
Happy and sad are some emotions of our mind
It can show us the way or from inside make us blind.
We should not listen to it for it does not tell us what is right.
Our intellect is the one which can make us bright.
So we should listen to our intellect for it tells us what is good
It does not tell us to go according to the mood.
So let us be truly free
And unlock the door from the clutches of our mind
with the help of the key.
What is our Mind

“Aspire to inspire before we expire” was a true s a y i n g . W e s h o u l d always have ambitions to get inspiration from various personalities so that we can also excel in life. We should not think about success, we should always work hard for excellence. If we do that, then success will come behind us.
The first and foremost value to receive inspiration is to select a suitable ambition. A man with-out an ambition is worthless. He should always have an aim in life so that he can live happily. Many people think that becoming a sweeper is not an ambition and it is useless. But if there was no sweeper, then will the city be clean? Will the city be magnifi-cent with beautiful monuments and roads? So, we should first think about the statement that we are going to tell.
P.V.Sindhu had a fixed ambition to become a badminton player. And she has already fulfilled it! You would ask how ? By practise and hardwork. She practised hard for the fulfillment of her obsession. She passed every surmount that came on her way, and she showed her potential. The same is with M. S. Dhoni. He had a fixed obsession for which he worked very hard and showed that he was good in cricket.
These kind of great personalities give a huge example of hard work, and we should give it utmost consideration. In the book- Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill had mentioned about
Barnes. Barnes was interested in working with Thomas Edison, and since Barnes was deter-mined, his opportunity stood in his front, inspiring him to utilize it and one day Thomas Edison himself called Barnes to work with him.
We have now come across many examples. These people did not use the word- imposs ib le because they had the willpower to achieve anything. They faced every difficulty that came on their way, and finally success was just behind them.
P.V.Sindhu, M.S.Dhoni, and Barnes also might have had a role model through which they gained inspiration, though we do not know who they were. Here, we come to know that inspira-tion is the first step for the achievement of an ambition. The next step is different. It is valued for the fulfillment of the ambi-tion. It is practise and hardwork. The third and final step is to face each and every challenge\hurdle which comes on the way to destroy ambition. And finally, the obsession is fulfilled.

Shishu Vihar is the youngest wing of Chinmaya Mission. Our little
toddlers are from 2.5yrs to 5yrs. As Gurudev said "Catch Them
Young", it is such a pleasure to be among them and see them
listening and learning. They have their own world, so pure at heart
and so much to share. Who says they are too small to catch up ? I say
they are the first ones. My little ones are accompanied by their
mothers. So moms also learn and help the little ones to learn. It is
indeed a blessing that I am chosen for Gurudev's work.
