Chemical Energy
Chemical energy is energy that is released by a chemical reaction.
Chemical Energy is required to bond atoms together. When bonds are broken, energy is released.
Examples
Fuel and batteries are forms of stored chemical energy.
The most important form of stored chemical energy is food!
Food is the body’s source of energy.
We need energy to grow, be active and maintain health.
Different types of food provide different amounts of energy.
Energy is measured in kilojoules – kJ.
FOOD
Chemical Energy
Different people need different amounts of energy.
The amount of energy they need depends on their age, job, how active they are and their health.
Key Questions
Working in pairs you have 2 minutes to discuss the following questions.
What is chemical energy?
Name 4 sources that have stored chemical energy.
