grandmother in Stonington her whole life. Alyssa is

a nursing student at the University of Vermont and

enjoys painting in her spare time.”

3. “Old Man of the Sea”By Anne Williams, Salty Spinners Handspun Wearables

“Combined in this buoy is Anne’s love of the sea as

well as her love for her sheep. The wonderful curly

wool is in its natural state from her endangered

Cotswold sheep. His hat and scarf are handspun from

her wool passion.”

2. “Garden PartyBy Amy Real“Garden Party was inspired by Amy’s fun

outside gatherings of friends and family

during the summer in Maine. The name

comes from an old Ricky Nelson song

about him being booed off the stage at

Madison Square Garden when he appeared

in his new image with ‘long hair and bell

bottoms.’”

5. “Peaceful Isles Among Chaos”By Erin Booker

“Crème sky A place of peace

Bring me by Surrounded by chaos

My little isle Bring me by my little isle

Among the tide. Among the tide.

The painting on this buoy is inspired by the rocks of

Belle-Isle.”

4. “Oceanside Chickens”By Siggi Saradunn“The buoy is inspired by the chickens roaming near PERC

when Siggi delivered last year's buoy. The girl with the

chicken is a copy of an oil portrait at painted at

Harwood's. While decorating the buoy, she thought of

George Boyce, Sr, and Leroy Weed, two Stonington

lobstermen and others. She respects their response to

the call of the sea and how hard the fishermen have to

work, under the best and worst of circumstances.”

6. “A Mariners Tail”By Philip Anderson“Phil is a native of Massachusetts who lives in Virginia

and has spent his entire career serving his country as a

U.S. Marine and more recently supporting the

Department of Homeland Security. His greatest

passions besides the Boston Red Sox are collecting

nautical antiques and creating unique “folk art” works.

He aspires to one day leave the Washington DC rat race

and live full-time in his house in Stonington.”

beautifully hand-crafted buoy which would be the

perfect addition to any island home.

this little guy has come out to party! He has even

brought his own lunch! This buoy is hand knit from

wool.”

10. “Sally Stonington”By Kerry Hopkins

“Kerry made his buoy into a fish during all the

winter storms this past year! She enjoyed the

project very much and hopes you enjoy her fish!”

11. “Fishermen's Dogs”By Betty Heanssler“One thing Betty has noticed about fishermen is their

relationship with their pets, namely their dogs. Some go on

the boats with their owners, but some have to stay at home

and wait. Such is the case with Sophie, Betty’s wire fox

terrier. She would ride on and in anything that moved, but if

she had to wait she did it with patience, day after day. Here's

to the dogs that love their fishermen, and wait for them.”

12. “Belle”By Karen Meisenheimer

“Belle is a mermaid, plunging the depths of the sea,

watching out for all the fisher people who work in the

waters she loves so very much. Belle hopes there will

always be abundance for those who make their living

in the sea. This buoy has been waterproofed to

withstand outdoor summer weather.”

the roadside in her new county of residence, Waldo

and distant, awesome mountains. Materials used

were acrylic, marker, white acrylic ink, and varnish

topcoat. Buoy may be sunlight-sensitive.”

14. “Historical Waters”By Marcie Amory

“This buoy is water color on parchment paper with

shells, dichroic and float glass.”

15. “Lupines”By Deena SchnitmanDeena’s buoy is made with paste paper. Paste paper is

always exciting as it offers her endless opportunities to

explore both color and design. Her designs are

inspired by primitive art, ornamental motifs and the

patterns, textures and colors found in nature. Her

inspiration for this buoy came from her love of

Stonington and lupines.

daughter Shari Ciomei, who has become a self taught artist

and has her own art gallery in Stonington – Shari is also a

contributing artist to this buoy auction.”

18. Hound DogBy Bert Yankielun“Need a faithful friend? He doesn’t bark, fetch

or do other tricks, but he clearly understands the

command: “STAY!” He doesn’t have to be fed

or walked and never wanders away. His ear-to-

ear grin will always cheer you up and is

guaranteed to evoke a smile even from the most

confirmed sour-puss.”

19. “Lupine Garden”By Sandi Cirillo“This buoy was inspired by the many, many lupines

that bloom in Sandi’s yard each year. She made a wind

chime to capture what she believes is the sound of

lupines blowing in a gentle wind. Soothing and restful

music, combined with vibrant floral art, were her goals

in creating this one-of-a-kind art piece. The wind

chime has been waterproofed to withstand outdoor

summer weather.”

20. Carved LobsterBy Chessell McGee

“This buoy was created in the middle of this year’s

long winter. While carving it Chessell was dreaming of

eating lobster by the seashore in August during her

annual visit to Stonington!”

Disney and some of his early characters. There are twelve

buoy are Tinkerbell, Jiminy Cricket, Dumbo, Mary Poppins,

Cheshire cat, Alice, Cinderella , Bambi, Timothy (Dumbo's

38. “The Lily Pond”By Bob Parker

“The Lily Pond is a unique place and has been an

inspiration for Bob and his family for many years.

The buoy, with its circular design, was perfect for

the environment of the Lily Pond. It was a pleasure

working on the buoy over the winter at his own

pace. His objective was to capture the essence of

the Lily Pond in its natural state.”

39. PenguinBy Doug Wilson and Tom Kellogg

“Tom and Doug have a history now of turning buoys

into stylized creatures. Every year they ponder a

number of animals to make. Tom and David spent

time in the Antarctic. During their research trips,

routine encounters with penguins endeared them. So

Tom and David suggested they make a penguin. Well,

sure enough, they could see a penguin in the buoy!”
