FEBRUARY, 2018 Welcome to winter ladies!
Seems Mother Nature can’t decide what season she wants us to be in right now – I’m all for no more winter though – I don’t do cold! The first luncheon of 2018 was a huge success. Our speaker was John Erling and he was informative and very entertaining while telling us about his project, The Voices of Oklahoma. Also, many thought our food was some of the best we have had – thank you Indian Springs Country
Club. It was our first time there but hopefully we will be back!
Big news to announce – and something we have been working on for a while. As of February 1, dues and luncheons may be paid with a credit or debit card. (See page 5 for details.) This will certainly make life easier for our treasurer, Terry Fenner. We will do this for a six month period and evaluate it after that time. It’s the perfect time to get introduced to our website if you haven’t already visited it as you will be able to use the website to pay online.
The board has decided our theme this year is “Gathering Place.” As many of you are aware, Tulsa is transforming nearly 100 acres along the Arkansas River into an active and dynamic “gathering place” that is believed will be a destination point for people worldwide. TNC is borrowing the idea of a “Gathering Place” and hope to use it each month as a focal point of the luncheon.
Wishing you all warm weather ahead ~ Barbara

Sue Ellingsworth is looking for a companion to go to Las Vegas for three or four days of sun. “Southwest has a through flight so no changes. I stay at the Orleans off the strip. It is reasonably priced and has big rooms, 5 restaurants, movie theatre, bowling alley, shows and of course, a large gambling floor. It furnishes buses to and from the strip. I am looking for someone who is independent, wants separate rooms and can pretty much entertain themselves for large portions of the day. If you don't like Vegas, can you lend me your husband for the trip. He will be safe. I am 82. Also in warmer weather, I'd love to go to Kansas City for a 2 day trip. Kansas City has a marvelous museum as well as two very nice shopping areas near the museum and excellent food.” Email Sue at [email protected] if you are interested.
Carol James will be teaching a six-week beginner Mah Jongg class on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm beginning February 13th through the Osher Lifelong learning Institute (OLLI @ OSU) at Central Center, 1028 E 6th Street. Class size is limited. Register at http://education.okstate.edu/olli

Book Club The TNC Book Club is a casual discussion group that often drifts into personal stories related to the book subject—a good way to get to know each other! Each month one of our members picks a book from a wide variety of genre including mystery/thrillers, historical fiction, biographies, humorous fiction, memoirs, and even an occasional science fiction. In January, we read a classic—a book that is well-recognized as being a classic or has received one or more awards, and/or had an impact on society or societal norms of the period during which it was published. In June, we have a book exchange where we bring books that we are willing to give away or loan to other members. In December, we have a Christmas party. Whatever the book, or the month, it's always fun, and we have a lot of really interesting discussions. Join us! For more information, contact Jaclyn Wertis at (918) 417-7994 or [email protected].
