We took full advantage of the opportunity and took the children in year 6 to visit locations in London that have housed key sources of power that have governed our country for many centuries: the Tower of London; Westminster Abbey, where Kings and Queens have been crowned for the past thousand years; and No.10 itself. We even got to walk through Parliament Square past a live demonstration – the power of the people! - outside the Houses of Parliament. Being able to stand by the famous door at No.10 was rather special as well as sitting round the cabinet table. We even got to meet Larry the cat, who was more interested in hugging a radiator than saying hello to us! Meanwhile, year 2 were burning London down! Our apprentice arsonists have been learning about the Great Fire of London in their history lessons and how the fire started and spread so quickly. They all carefully made houses and then we assembled them all into a model version of our great city – then took a match to it to see how the fire spread and the buildings turned to ash. If you haven’t seen the spectacular video of the event please have a look here.
