Page 2: Chapter Book Activities

Character Biography

Middle or End Write a biography of the main character in the

book. It should be at least 2-3 paragraphs long. Make sure you describe the person in detail, including what their personality is and what they look like. Use the evidence from the text to prove your statements.

Book Report

EndWrite a book report about your chapter book.

Include the following sub-headings:TitleMain characters (with descriptions)SettingsSummaryReview (did you like the book or not and why)

Comprehension Questions

Middle or EndYou must create 4 good comprehension

questions for your chapter book. They should be questions that require an explanation for an answer.

Then, you must answer these questions in detail, using evidence from the text.

Letters

Middle or EndYou need to write two letters. Each letter

should be from the POV of a different character. In other words, you should pretend you are each character.

Each letter must refer to events or characters in the book, so you can show your understanding of the book.

The letter can be written to another character or to someone else entirely.

ENDComplete any three of the following statements with a minimum of three additional

sentences each, reacting to what you have read.

EndIf you had to buy something for three of the

characters in your book, what would they be and why? Make sure you include a detailed explanation, using evidence from the text.

Fictional Friend

Middle or EndWho of all the characters would you want for a

friend? Why? What would you do or talk about together? Explain fully. Make sure you include a lot of detail as well as evidence for your reasons from the text.

Author Article

EndPretend you are the author of the novel. Write

an article for a magazine, outlining the story and telling why you wrote it. Give your article an interesting headline and include some drawings.

Character Diary

Middle or EndChoose a character and write a personal diary

for them, using the events that happened to him/her in the book.

You need to write 2 or 3 separate diary entries.

Character Interview

Middle or EndChoose a character. Write a set of questions

that could be used to interview the person. Make them open-ended. In other words, write them so that the character’s answer is an explanation.

After that, you must pretend you’re the character and answer the questions in detail.

Middle or EndPretend you are a character in the novel and

describe the other characters in the novel and what you think of each of them. Make sure you explain why, in detail.

You should be describing at least 4 other characters.

Relationships

Choose one pair of characters from your story. Explain each answer fully.

1. What are these characters likely to do together?2. What are these characters likely to say to one another?3. What are these characters likely to think about each

other?4. What is responsible for the type of relationship they

have with one another?5. Does their relationship undergo any kind of change in

the course of the story?6. Is the relationship likely to change in the future?7. Is their relationship a “good” or “bad” one?
