Teachers’ Day Gifts We would like to take this opportunity to encourage all students to show their appreciation to their teachers through cards or self-made handicrafts. Students are strongly discouraged from buying gifts for their teachers, especially expensive ones, as Teachers will have difficulty accepting them as public service officers. I would also like to encourage Parents and Guardians to share words of affirmation with your children’s teachers, to encourage them to continue with their good work. It takes an entire village to raise a child. Thank you for helping to make your children’s Teachers’ Day a special one for our Teachers, Allied Educators (AED) and Executive and Administrative Staff (EAS). Other than an assembly talk, an information booth will be set up and posters will be hung around the school canteen during the visit to create awareness and spread information as to how we can all do our part to reduce food wastage in Singapore. Through this initiative, the school hopes to inculcate the value of saving food and reducing food wastage amongst all. We seek your support in reinforcing the key messages with your children.
8. Healthy Mind, Healthy Body (Fun Fruity Facts) The often-quoted saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” may be oversimplifying things. In fact, if you want to keep the doctor away, the magic number is actually two servings of fruits per day. Fruits are packed with health benefits and are naturally low in fat, calories and sodium. Not only are they a great source of Vitamin C, they are also rich in antioxidants, which are important for disease fighting. So, do pack some fruits into your child’s snack boxes! Teach them to enjoy having fruits and interest them with some benefits or interesting facts of eating those fruits. Fun Fact – Did you know that apples can work as a natural mouth refresher, cleaning the teeth with each bite and leaving a pleasant aroma in your mouth? Here is a general guideline of what one serving of fruit looks like:
School Values: Patriotism, Resilience, Integrity, Discipline and Empathy
3
1 small apple, orange, pear or mango (130g)
1 wedge of papaya, pineapple or watermelon (130g)
10 grapes or longans (50g)
1 medium banana

9. ‘My Family Weekend’ (31 Aug – 2 Sep 2018) MOE is one of the organisations supporting “My Family Weekend” – an initiative that is supported by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). Families for Life, a people-sector council supported by MSF, is organizing the annual “My Family Weekend” from 31 August 2018 to 2 September 2018 to celebrate family time. The public service has always been a strong advocate for positive work-life culture. Through this new initiative, we continue to encourage families, including extended families, to spend quality time together, reconnect and bond. As such, the school will close at 5.00pm on Fri 31 Aug 2018 so that all staff members can spend time and bond with their family members over dinner.
With warm regards, Cheng Huey Teng (Mrs) Principal
