Newnan-Coweta Chamber Mission, Vision, and Values

2014 annual report

T h e N e w n a n - C o w e t a Chamber begins a new year in 2015, and it is a great time to ref lect on the accomplish-ments of 2014. As is always the case, we could not have had such a successful year without the help of our volunteers, our committee chairs, our board of directors and, of course, our members!

One of the highlights for our Chamber last year was the promotion of Coweta County as a healthcare destination. With new hospitals including Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, and the newly opened HealthSouth

Rehabilitation Hospital, Coweta is fast becoming known as the place to be for the best in qual-ity healthcare.

We are grateful for the rela-tionship building that occurred in 2014 with our local legislative delegation, and together we are making a difference and pro-

moting the many benefits of life in Coweta County.

We can’t look back on 2014 without remembering the fun of our first major membership drive in more than 30 years. Some 203 new members joined our Chamber last year, and many volunteers worked dili-gently to help make this happen.

As we look ahead to an excit-ing 2015 here at “Prosperity’s Front Door,” we hope you’re as proud of your Chamber and your community as we are.

Sincerely, Sharon Szymanski,

2014 Chair and Candace Boothby,

Letter from the 2015 Chairman

of the BoardDear Chamber Members,

I am pleased and excited to serve as your 2015 Chair of The Newnan-Cowe-ta Chamber. I look forward to working with all of you as The Chamber con-tinues its mission of championing eco-nomic prosperity for its members and all of Coweta County.

My job will be much easier thanks to the work of our 2014 Chair Sharon Szy-manski. Her efforts, along with those of the Chamber board, committee chairs and our outstanding Chamber staff, resulted in dramatic progress over the past year.

As a result of those efforts, The Cham-ber now boasts almost 1,000 members and continues to be among the most respected and influential Chambers in the nation. We will continue the effort to educate, ad-vocate and assure that Coweta County re-mains “Prosperity’s Front Door.”

Thanks in large part to the efforts of The Chamber and its members, Coweta County continues to lead the region in economic growth.

In recent years, the opening of Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Cancer Treatment Cen-ters of America at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, HealthSouth Rehabilita-tion Hospital of Newnan and numerous new medical practices have cemented Coweta’s place as a healthcare destination.

The Newnan Centre continues to draw rave reviews and big crowds as more busi-nesses and individuals take advantage of this first-class meeting facility. Our in-dustrial and commercial growth remains strong, and Coweta continues to be a major player in Georgia’s film industry.

The 2015 opening of the University of West Georgia’s new campus in downtown Newnan will boost the economy and pro-vide increased educational opportunities for Coweta and the entire region.

The future is bright. With your contin-ued help and support, our Chamber will make Coweta County an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

Sincerely,Danny Beck

2015 Chair, Newnan-Coweta Chamber

2014 annual report

Support for Coweta as a Healthcare DestinationOne of the key areas of concen-

tration of the Advocacy Division in 2014 was the continued support of promoting Coweta County’s posi-tion as a healthcare destination. Through our marketing initiative, we disseminated information about the increase of hospitals, clinics and specialty health services in Newnan. Following the market-ing recommendations in the 2013 special report “Coweta County: Healthcare Center of Excellence,” 2014 initiatives included the re-

lease of a Healthcare Progress Re-port that was shared with recruit-ers and realtors to use as a tool in promoting this area. The Chamber collaborated with local healthcare leaders through events such as our Business Women’s Network luncheons, which featured speak-ers including Michele M. Molden, Chief Strategy Officer of Piedmont Healthcare, and Anne Meisner, President and CEO of Cancer Treat-ment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical

Center in Newnan. The Chamber also provided funding for 42 local nursing students to take the Cer-tified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam. The CNA designation is in-creasingly a requirement for those entering a Registered Nurse (RN) program at the college and univer-sity level, and covering the CNA exam fee is one way The Chamber is helping ensure the availability of qualified medical professionals in Coweta County.

Drives Programs

Since 2014 was an elec-tion year, The Chamber’s Advocacy Division was proactive in making sure the local business com-munity and general pub-lic were aware of where candidates for off ice stood on the issues they care about. A Candidate Forum was held at Cen-tral Educational Cen-ter in October and fea-tured candidates for State House and Senate seats. Also that month, a Politi-cal HobNob was held at The Newnan Centre to give citizens and candi-dates an opportunity to mix and mingle prior to

the November election. Georgia House and Sen-ate candidates as well as Coweta County Com-mission candidates were among those at tend-ing. The Chamber also

distr ibuted Advocate e-mails to keep mem-bers apprised of break-ing news regarding votes, issues and developments of concern to the busi-ness community.

Dennis McEntire stands nearby as Dean Jackson speaks at a Political HobNob held at The Newnan Centre in October 2014.

Industry Program Focuses on

Safety, RetentionThe Advocacy Division supported Coweta’s industrial and general business by continuing its Industry Benchmarking Initiative series, which focuses on two increasingly impor-tant areas of business: human resources and job safety. Experienced local business people helped launch the program by sharing how they overcame challenges in successfully re-cruiting professional, technical and hourly staff in both start-up and expansion projects. Also as a result of this initiative, the Coweta County Safety Council was formed to provide guidance and training to businesses in Coweta County. It is comprised of safety professionals who desire to share their collective knowledge to help local industry comply with OSHA regu-lation and ultimately keep the Coweta County workforce healthy and safe. The Safety Coun-cil believes that it takes the combined efforts of local companies and community resources to effectively promote safe work practices.

In 2014, many members took advantage of networking opportunities like the Golf Classic.

These events are designed to create connections, and often the networking results in leads generation. In 2014, The Chamber facilitated these connections through four sig-nature events: the Annual Meeting, the Golf Classic, the Small Business Awards and B2B Showcase, and the Win-ter Wonderland Big Expo. Rib-bon cuttings, Business-After-Hours networking events, NuLink Early Bird Forums and other meetings created even more opportunities for meet-ing new people and prospec-tive customers.

market itself is a key decision, and since 2011, The Chamber has been using the marketing and branding theme of “Pros-perity’s Front Door.”

The “construction” of a door-way to prosperity was a group effort of community leaders in business, education and gov-ernment, guided by the accom-plished Great Southern Publish-ers of St. Simons Island, GA.

Researching the community, its history and the perception of its people, Great Southern and The Chamber conceived of Coweta being a portal to a bet-ter, more prosperous commu-nity. Success and a productive future community was meta-phorically like passing through a doorway and achieving a bright and prosperous future from the launching spot of Coweta County.

Logos, colors and graphic depictions were produced and launched in 2012. The various entities closely associated with Coweta agreed to adopt and use these branding components on literature and other identifying vehicles.

But what is it that makes Coweta’s boast of being “Pros-perity’s Front Door” meaningful and not just a slogan?

We identified the basic “pil-lars” of Coweta’s strengths—healthcare, education, business, shopping, housing and quality of life—to support the claim of being the front door to prosper-ity. The “healthcare” pillar has been an early focus of the cam-paign, and in the future we will be featuring the other pillars to give life and meaning to our marketing slogan.

Our belief is that “Prosperity’s Front Door” will become more and more closely identif ied with Coweta County. Coweta’s strength is its people and leader-ship, its opportunities and pos-sibilities. We have made a great start, and we know that our citi-zenry, our businesses and our elected officials will continue to work together and be “Pros-perity’s Front Door” for years to come.

Chamber celebrates 2014 annual awardsEach year The Chamber recognizes outstanding volunteers and their contributions.

Congratulations to the 2014 recipients!

2014 Volunteer of the Year

This award recognizes an individual who has made extraordinary contributions of time and leadership that resulted in tangible benefits to the Cham-ber and its members, and this year’s winner is Samantha Brazie of Progressive Heating & Air. Samantha volun-teers for everything, and not just as a team member but in many cases as the chair. She chaired the Small Business Awards and B2B Showcase as well as the logistics sub-committee for Big Expo, and she currently chairs the Prime Time March Madness event and the Young Profes-sionals Advisory Council.

2014 Chairman’s Award

This award is presented by the 2014 Chair of the Board of Directors in recognition for unique contributions to the Chamber and its mem-bers. In 2014, the Chamber redesigned and relaunched its Business Women’s Net-work, which turned into one of the most success-ful programs of the year. At the heart of this suc-cess was chair and spon-sor Gwen Garrison, owner and president of LifePlan Financial Advisors, Inc. Gwen’s leadership, vision and perseverance helped create an environment that supported and empowered Coweta’s business women. The pro-gram now serves as a model for other Chamber programs focused on delivering powerful content presented with respect for each person’s individ-ual needs and path.

2014 Prosperity AwardsThis award recognizes actions or

achievements that have significantly contributed to the economic prosperity and development of our community in the past 12 months.

Companies and organizations receiv-ing this award were:

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital

HealthSouth announced in 2013 that it would build a 50 bed compre-hensive inpatient rehabilitation hos-pital in Newnan and opened its new 55,000-square-foot-facility in December 2014. The development, which enhances

Coweta’s growing status as a health-care destination, represents a $22 mil-lion investment in the community and is expected to generate over 125 new full time jobs. A prosperous community requires first-rate healthcare choices, and Coweta County excels in this area.

Niagara Bottling

Less than two months after announc-ing it would locate a water bottling facil-ity in Coweta County, Niagara Bottling announced the facility will be larger than originally projected. The company announced in March 2014 that it would locate a 450,000-square-foot facility in Shenandoah Industrial Park and open with one production line and 41 employ-

ees. Later in the year, the company announced that production would begin with two lines and at least 70 employees. In addition, the capital investment for the project would increase from $52 million to $79 million.

Nissan of Newnan

A prosperous community is the perfect market for new automobiles, and Nissan of Newnan celebrated its grand opening here in June 2014. Nissan of Newnan rep-resents a $10 million investment in land and building development with 37,000 square feet of building space and an aver-age daily traffic flow of more than 1,200 vehicles. The dealership is the second to come online in Newnan recently.

TownePlace Suites Marriott

This 89-unit hotel is owned and operated by Paramount Hospitality Management and represents their second facility in Newnan. Located on a 2.5-acre site, the hotel provides an upscale alternative to more standard hotel rooms designed for shorter stays and meets a need for an extended stay property for visitors in Newnan who need a quality place to stay for a longer period of time. The hotel’s presence here reinforces Coweta County’s image as Prosperity’s Front Door.

WDS Industries

As a supplier to Cargill, WDS Industries has found Coweta County to be a great place to do business. The company’s business has grown so much, it moved from 25,000 square feet in Newnan into 46,000 square feet in the multi-tenant build-ing at Coweta Industrial Park.

Winpak

Winpak has consistently grown its operations since locating in Senoia. In addi-tion to adding new equipment and manufacturing build-ings in recent years, the com-pany added 12,000 square feet of new administrative office space during 2014.

Dear Brenda Mitchell,

Congratulations!

On behalf of SeniorAdvisor.com, I am pleased to inform you that Savannah Court of Newnan has been rated by your families as The Best of Assisted Living in Atlanta for 2015.

Now in their second year, the SeniorAdvisor.com Best of 2015 Awards recognize senior living and home care providers who receive consistently high ratings and positive reviews from their residents, families and visitors. This exclusive designation is awarded to fewer than one percent of providers nationwide. Your families think you’re terrifi c. We launched SeniorAdvisor.com in 2013 to introduce consumers to the Best of the Best in senior care, and we’re proud to feature you in that list.

The full list of award winners is available on SeniorAdvisor.com.

Thank you for all you do to help seniors and their loved ones. You care, and it shows.
