Chris Shorow, Senior Minister Vol. 3 No. 3 January 27, 2011 I know a great church in another state full of committed Christians. They have a healthy worship attendance and some very committed members. However, I heard one of the members complaining that they were frustrated because there were so many meaningful ministries they could be doing as a church, but were not. It sounds like they needed a challenge. A challenge to do more ministry, reaching out in Christ’s name. But how? Great ministry doesn’t just happen. It takes planning and hard work. And people coming together to get the job done. Another member of a church in Oklahoma City called me and wanted to talk about Breakfast on Boulevard. He wanted to start something like it at his church. After I spoke glowingly of all the things going on at BOB, he was overwhelmed. How could we possibly get all that going? That many volunteers, that much food, all those donations? As I told him, it takes commitment, hard work and careful planning. By the way, thanks to all those who make that happen! A great opportunity for training our saints in the church is coming up soon through our Regional Church. The 2011 Leadership Training School is happening on Saturday, February 5 at the First Christian Church in OKC (yes, the big domed church off of Broadway Extension. That day will offer a myriad of classes designed to train our members in planning and implementing great ministry. From youth and children’s ministry workshops, to training for elders and deacons, outreach, stewardship, movies, puppets and Biblical studies, there is something for about any interest in the church. More information and a listing of the classes is available on the Regional church website, okdisciples.org. The good news is that the event is free to members of our church. We paid a church fee, so just mention you are from FCC Edmond, and the welcome will be extended to you. Let’s keep doing great ministry together. Would you like to serve the church by: nServing coffee? nHelping to plan and implement fellowship events? nHelping NEW members become part of our church? If so, contact Julie Bunton at [email protected]or Amanda Stuke at [email protected]and join the Membership Ministry! Each year we hold a bean dinner to supp our bi-annual student International Affair Seminar (IAS) trip. The purpose of the IA experience is to expose students to a larg world view, and Christian responsiblity. So every other year we take a group of students to Washington D.C. and New Y City. While we are not traveling in 2011, continue to need to raise money in order to accommodate the potential number o students eligible for the trip in 2012. Due to the generous donations of our church community, traditionally the Bean Dinne has raised between $600 and $1900. So please come eat beans, cornbrea and slaw this Sunday, January 30! You w be part of sustaining a very special event the life of the students of First Christian o Edmond! nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

On February 6, 130 million people all over the world will
tune in to the Super Bowl football game. There will be
parties with abundantfood. At the same time, there will
be people worrying about clothing their families, looking
for shelter and hoping for a warm meal. The Cornerstone
Class invites you to demonstrate God’s love by loving our
neighbors with a simple, but significant act of sharing and
charing for others through the Souper Bowl of Caring! Members of the class will be holding
soup pots at the church to collect money for those who are hungry and hurting. In 2010,
over 13,000 groups participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring, generating over $10 million.
We will donate our entire Souper Bowl of Caring collection to Breakfast on Boulevard.
