Children Lead Worship - Focus on PeaceBy Anna Lisa Stanley, Director of Childrens Ministries
Vol. 3 No. 10 March 24, 2011
This Sunday, March 27th is Childrens Sunday! We hope you will attend as our children lead us in
worship at 9:00am and 11:00am. Childrens Sunday is important because it offers our youngsters
an opportunity to learn the parts of a worship service, offer praise with their words and in song, and
explore what it means to serve others.
During these services, we will be welcoming special guest David Owen, Associate for Resource
Development with Global Ministries. Prior to being appointed to this position in January 2007 he an
his wife, Roxi, served in Africa through Global Ministries for over 15 years. His most recent assign-
ment was with the World Council of Churches and the All Africa Conference of Churches located in
Nairobi, Kenya. David will be offering some
insight for our children as to what life looks like
for some children in Africa, how it is different from their own life, and how
we can connect to each other.
As our children serve us on this Sunday, I ask that you explore oppor-
tunities to serve them. Summer Sunday school and Vacation Bible school
are upon us. Soon, we will be asking those of you that are called to work
with children, to serve them. Invest in these little ones, as they are the
future of First Christian Church.
Sign Up Begins for Annual Easter Prayer VigilHe went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Matthew 14:2Seeking solitude was an important priority for Jesus. He made room in His busy
schedule to be alone with His Father. Spending time with God in prayer nurtures a
vital relationship and equips us to meet lifes challenges and struggles. The Elders of First Christian invite you to take part in one of the most important
traditions we celebrate each yearour Annual Easter Prayer Vigil. As we remember
the crucifixion, death and resurrection of our Lord this Easter season, we offer the sig
nificant opportunity for families and individuals to take part in our Easter Prayer Vigil
The youth of our Student Ministries begin our Prayer Vigil at 6pm on Good Frida
and it continues with individuals or families praying through 5:30am on Easter Sun-
day morning. This is your opportunity to pray for our congregation and community
during the hours leading up to Easter morning. You may select a time and sign up on
our Prayer Vigil sign-up board in the Rotunda. Times begin at 7pm Good Friday and
conclude shortly before our Easter Sunrise Service.
We invite you to join other members of our family of faith as we continue the
legacy of praying begun long ago by our Savior. Spend quiet moments with God in t
peacefulness of our Chapelcome and pray.
NOTE TO PARENTS: If your child is leading or participating inour Childrens Sunday worship, they must be here for both the 9:00
and 11:00 services. Please have your child meet 10 minutes prior to
both services in the hallway just outside of the sanctuary, closest to
the Pastors offices. Thanks!
