September 2011 Cebu 2 You Greetings from Cebu, the land of sunshine, smiles and rain. In spite of the rain we have had an exciting month with ministry growth and we had a good ministry time with the CC Downey Summer Team. Extravaganza VI On August 13 th we were blessed to have our 6 th annual Extravaganza, 1 Day VBS, where we had 375 children in attendance. We had 67 workers (including the ten member team), and we needed them all. Each child was exposed to the Word of God via a Bible story, they learned action songs, made crafts that related to the Bible Story and Theme of the event, played games and they viewed a puppet show (drama) designed and presented by the Downey team. They also received a hot lunch and 2 snacks during the day. We had over 500 signed up but some were deterred by the weather. Our goal next year is to sign up at least 1000. Pray for this vision. Extravaganza VI

We were again blessed to have a team from Calvary Chapel of Downey, my home to travel by boat to the island of Dumaguete to visit Rainbow Orphanage and to tour Calvary Chapel Training Center, the home of Calvary Chapel Bible College-Philippines.
The team came prepared to do a puppet show with the gospel message at Extravaganza but were also invited to perform it at Apas Barangay Hall. As a result, we have been asked to perform the puppet show at the local elementary school, where we do a feeding weekly for over 300, for the entire school. The team was kind enough to leave the props for the show and we are now preparing to do the show.
We are now building a new puppet ministry for the church to be able to reach more children and to open more doors to share.
New Ministries
Besides the puppet ministry, we are starting 2 other new ministries. We are looking at taking over a ministry to hard core street children near our church and will meet them this Sunday. If all goes well, in September we will begin to meet with them weekly.
We are also starting a Discipleship Ministry to study the Bible more in depth, requested by some of the more serious members of our church. We will begin September 8th with the Book of Proverbs.
