Since CCHD’s inception, it has introduced new concepts, new approaches and new sectors in the development sphere of Pakistan. CCHD was the first organization to begin a Campaign on Violence Against Women in 1996. With this it moved to provide doorstep services to victims of violence through establishing Protection Centres in communities. Police, notables, women councilors and media were among the many supporters of the Centres. The initiative soon spread to 10 districts and was adopted by the federal government in 1998 by establishing Crisis Centers for Women. In 2000, CCHD was the first organization to support Local Government Ordinance 2001, held national level consultations and trained many women to contest both the local government elections of 2002 and 2006. The initiative was backed by electronic media (TV and Radio) and community campaigns. In 2008, CCHD introduced rights-based advocacy as the key tool for improving good governance. Hundreds of NGOs were trained on the concept and today these NGOs are instrumental in improving services by working closely with line agencies and local leadership in their districts. From 2010 to date, CCHD remains a key player in Protection sector under humanitarian assistance. In the coming five years, CCHD plans to launch two more new campaigns: 1) fight against corruption and money laundering, and 2) empowering children and youth in Pakistan.
