    Cardi and Vale College International(CAVCI) is a great place to study and meet

    new people. You will have the opportunity

    Welare support

    We want you to have the best possible

    experience while studying with us. Your

    welare is very important to us and or this

    reason your tutor will support you with any

    academic issues and the international

    oice sta will oer guidance on anypractical matters.

    Induction

    At the start o the course the College oers

    an induction programme that will help you

    get to know your teachers, ellow students

    and will help you settle into the College

    and your course. CAVCI also uses a buddy

    system to integrate late enrollers.

    Health

    Non-EU students are eligible or health cover

    under the NHS (National Health Service) i

    their course is or 6 months or more. Students

    ollowing courses o less than six months will

    need to arrange private health insurance

    beore coming to the UK. EU nationals aregenerally covered by the NHS.

    Social events andenrichment programme

    The College organises a range o ree social

    activities or ull time students during the

    year. Each year there are organised day

    excursions to London or sightseeing and

    shopping, Oxord, Tenby (West Wales) and

    The National Museum o Wales in St Fagans.

    EIS teachers also arrange local visits to

    places such as Cardi Castle, Cardi Bay,

    The National Gallery, Big Pit mining museum,

    The Vale Heritage Centre, Swansea and the

    Gower Peninsula.

    Evening events are arranged at local venues.

    These can include a play at the ShermanTheatre, a night at the opera in the Wales

    Millennium Centre, a Premier League ootball

    match with Cardi City FC, an alternative ilm

    at Chapter Arts Centre or even a pantomime

    at the New Theatre, or example.

    Wednesday aternoons are dedicated to

    the cross-college Enrichment activities

    programme, when you can take part in awide range o sporting, creative and cultural

    activities with other students in the college.

    Social events or EIS students also include

    Welcome Drinks or new students starting in

    September or January to help get to know

    each other. The International Christmas

    Lunch is a east o colourul ood and

    culture in December, while the end o year

    Graduation event in June helps us all to see

    out the year in style.

    Taking part in the organised social

    programme can be a great way to make

    riends and learn about Welsh and

    British culture!

    Note: For some activities organised by the

    College, there is sometimes an extra cost ortickets/entry (up to 15) such as or a night at

    the opera, theatre, cinema or bowling.

    CAVCI sponsors Cardi City FC and provides

    English education or Kim Bo-Kyung o South

    Korea.

    At CAVCI we understand that international

    students may have dierent needs and we

    do everything we can to help meet those

    needs.

    I you need additional language support to

    complete coursework, the College has sta

    that can help in the learning centres.

    I you eel that you need other kinds o

    support or personal issues or just someone

    you can talk to, the College oers a

    dedicated team o councillors and welare

    support sta that you can go to.

    The College oers prayer rooms at the

    dierent campuses which provide a quiet

    and respectul place or students who need

    to take time out o their studies to meet their

    spiritual needs.

    Student AccommodationCardi is an excellent city in which to study.

    Where you live can be an important part o

    the experience. Cardi and Vale College

    International has an accommodation oicer

    who will be happy to organise catered or sel-

    catered accommodation with a amily or

    you beore you arrive in the UK. We can also

    advise on other accommodation available.

    Living with a British amily

    The College will organise this or you. Living

    with a amily is a great way o settling intolie in the UK and a good opportunity to meet

    interesting people and use and practice

    your language skills. Our accommodation

    providers are careully selected according

    to the British Council code o practice and

    are regularly inspected by our

    accommodation oicer.

    Bookings are or a minimum o one monthand you will need to pay a deposit o 130

    Applying or a VisaThe UK Border Agency (UKBA) makes regular

    changes to the guidance it issues on student

    applications.

    Beore you make your application, check thewebsite http://www.ukba.homeoice.gov.uk/

    and also see the UKCISA inormation sheets

    http://www.ukcisa.org.uk/ to make sure you

    have the most up-to-date inormation.

    In general, you do not need to apply or

    permission to enter the UK i you are a citizen

    or national o the European Economic

    Area (the 27 EU countries plus Iceland,Lichtenstein and Norway) or Switzerland.

    I you are not an EEA or Swiss citizen and you

    want to come to the UK as a student you

    need to apply or entry clearance beore

    you leave the country where you live to travel

    to the UK.

    You must ensure that:

    the college you apply to has a Tier 4

    Highly Trusted Sponsor Status.

    your course is at the required level.

    you satisy strict inancial requirements

    How much money do you need?

    When you apply or your visa you will need

    to prove you have enough money to pay or

    your course and your stay in the UK.

    Budgeting or your studies is really important.

    So do your own research on accommodation

    and ood costs, travel, clothes, socialactivities etc. There is a lot o really helpul

    guidance on the UKCISA website or visit

    maintenance amount set down by the UKBA

    is 800 a month or students studying

    outside London but depending on your

    liestyle you may need more than this.

    Money MattersStudy costs

    Budgeting or overseas study is an important

    part o planning your application. Depending

    on your residency status in EEA/EU you may

    need to pay international ees.

    I you are a national o one o the EU

    countries and have been living in the EU/EEA

    or Switzerland or 3 years beore the start

    o your course you may pay the EU/Home

    course ees.

    You may need to pay the higher course ees

    to study i you are not an EU citizen or i youhave not been ordinarily resident in the EEA

    or 3 ull years beore the start o your course.

    Travel

    I you do not live within walking distance o

    the College you may need to spend up to 20

    per week on public transport.

    Accommodation

    Depending on the type o accommodation

    you choose, you may pay rom 100

    to 130 per week. Privately arranged

    accommodation costs may vary.

    Living expenses

    This will depend on your liestyle. Cardi is

    relatively cheap compared to other areas o

    the UK and you will need to budget careully.

    Working in the UK

    I you are on a Tier 4 visa, you may be able

    to work a limited number o hours during

    term time. This will be stated on your visa

    document.

    I you are hoping to work while you are in

    Cardi, please make sure you do someresearch irst to ind out the kinds o jobs

    available to students on limited hours. This

    will help you get a good idea o how much

    money you need to have available to you.

    You will still need to show 800 per month or

    the number o months o study to the UKBA

    Extended Student Visitor Visa, you are not

    Course materials

    For certain courses (e.g. photography, hair

    and beauty) you will need to buy specialist

    equipment or materials.

    Insurance cover and medical careCosts vary depending on the cover

    you require.

    We strongly advise you to arrange suitable

    insurance cover or the duration o your stay

    in the UK. It is recommended that the cover

    includes emergency expenses, personal

    accident, loss o baggage/personal eects

    and personal liability.

    EU students are entitled to receive medical

    care rom the UKs National Health service,

    most o which is registered ree. Non-EU

    nationals who are registered or a ull-time

    course o 6 months or longer can also beneit

    rom this service. However, i you are a

    non-EU national and will be staying or less

    than 6 months, you will need to arrangemedical insurance.

    Approximate study costs per year orinternational students 15,000. This costincludes ees, accommodation and livingexpenses and thereore may vary.

    Beore deciding on a course, you willneed to:

    assess your present academic

    qualiications. The International Oice

    think about your career plans and decide on

    the best subjects to study or your

    uture success.

    The college checks all academicqualiications or UK equivalents throughthe National Academic RecognitionInormation Centre (UKNARIC). Pleasenote that in some cases English may not beaccepted as a suitable GCSE equivalent.

    I you need to improve your English language

    skills, we recommend that you ollow a

    ull-time English language course with the

    EIS Programme Area (p.24).

    I your level o English is already high, you

    can choose to study or an academic or

    Mainstream students paying international

    ees will be exempt rom any annual ee

    increase imposed during their studies

    provided that they are progressing on the

    same course.

    International ees or all part time Academic& Vocational (non EIS) courses are

    calculated at an hourly rate o 8.50 plus

    exam ees (students must have a visa which

    allows part time study).

    Your route to University and toa degree course

    There are our ways in which you can

    prepare or entry to a UK university: A two-year programme o GCE A-Levels, in

    three or our subjects chosen rom a wide

    variety oered

    A two-year Extended Diploma in an

    appropriate discipline

    A one-year Access course in an

    appropriate discipline

    Your existing qualiications, i suitable, with

    an appropriate IELTS score.

    Courses ill up quickly so apply early toavoid disappointment.

    Key Skills and English LanguageSupport

    Whichever ull-time academic orvocational course you choose, you will

    be given opportunities to improve your

    Communication, Numeracy and Inormation

    Technology skills, (called Key Skills). I you

    require English Language support or would

    like to gain a Cambridge ESOL qualiication

    in addition to your academic or vocational

    programme, you may attend a part time

    EIS Course. The English or InternationalStudents Programme Area can also help

    you prepare or the IELTS test or entry into

    Higher Education i required.

    A Levels

    Dates: 2013/14

    Course length: 2 years

    Hours per week: Approximately 20 hours

    Fees per year: 5,500

    Qualiication aim: AS (year 1), A2 (year 2). AS + A2 = A Level

    Entry requirements: IELTS 5.5 (in all disciplines) or equivalent

    5 GCSEs ( grades A-C including Maths & English) or equivalent

    Progression: University

    A-Levels present a challenge, but we oer excellent study acilities and strong tutorial support.

    A-Levels

    The Advanced Level Programme is a traditional academic course and a popular choice

    with students who would like to gain entry to Higher Education. You select up to our core

    subjects, which are studied over two years. You take AS (Advanced Subsidiary) exams at

    the end o year one beore progressing to the A-Level (A2) qualiication at the end o thesecond year. Taking an AS and A2 qualiication then gives you a ull A-Level.

    Vocational / Technical Courses

    As an alternative to academic study, you may preer to take one o our vocational

    programmes in the area o your chosen career such as our BTEC/EDEXCEL Extended

    Diploma courses. These are vocational courses, designed or students who would like

    Education provision at Cardi and Vale College International is subject to the Cardi and Vale College

    International (CAVCI) Terms and Conditions or International Students. Please read the ollowing beoremaking any payment or accepting an oer o a place at the College.

    Payment Conditions

    Students requiring a visa

    All applicants that have accepted a CAVCI oer o a course must pay the ull ee or the period o study beore a

    conirmation letter will be issued..

    A Conirmation o Acceptance or Studies (CAS) number or a course conirmation letter, which will enable you to acquire a

    visa, will not be issued until ull payment has been received. For academic and vocational courses this payment must be at

    least ive weeks beore the start o the course. For students on all courses, this payment must be made beore a place can

    be guaranteed.

    The College will cover the cost o one CAS. Any additional CAS will be charged to the student at the current Home Oice rate.

    For students requiring a Tier 4 visa, in order to ensure we comply with UK Border Agency regulations, we may request

    evidence o the students inancial situation.

    Students not requiring a visa

    English or International Students: For applicants with an oer o a place on an English course rom the College or a 10

    month period o study, the course ee will be payable in two instalments. The irst payment must be made when accepting

    the oer and beore the start o the course. The second payment must be made beore the second Friday in January. The

    irst instalment will be equal to the cost o the irst terms study plus a deposit o 150 to book a place on the course or the

    remainder o the academic year. The second instalment will be the remaining balance.

    Payment must be made in ull or courses less than a ull academic year and this payment must be made at or

    beore enrolment.

    Applicants or part-time courses ollow the same payment requirements as detailed above depending on the period o

    study. The irst instalment will be equal to the cost o the irst terms study plus a deposit o 40 to book a place on the course

    or the remainder o the academic year. The irst payment must be made beore a place on a course can be guaranteed.

    Students on Academic or Vocational Courses: Students on a course lasting a ull academic year will be able to pay their ee

    in two equal instalments. The irst instalment must be paid at or beore enrolment and the second instalment must be paid

    beore the second Friday in January.

    For all students

    Students who do not make their second payment beore the deadline will risk being withdrawn rom their course. Students

    will not receive a reund o any ees in this case.

    The course ee or deposit is not automatically transerable rom one term/year to another.

    The course ee or deposit is not transerable rom one person to another.

    Any student wishing to extend their English or International Students course will need to re-enrol or the desired course

    period within the deadline set by the International Oice, i there are places available, and pay a 25 administration ee as

    well as the new course ee or dierence bet ween the paid ee and the new course ee.

    Reunds are guaranteed only i the student visa or entry clearance is denied. This is proven by presenting International

    Oice sta with the reusal notice rom the British Embassy or Home Oice/IND.

    In any other circumstances reunds are at the discretion o the College. The College may request students to present

    documentary evidence to support their reund request, or example, medical certiicates or letters rom employers or

    educational establishments.

    All reunds or ull time courses are subject to a 100 administration ee and reunds or part time courses are subject to a

    30 administration ee.

    Please allow up to our weeks or the College to process a reund.

    Reunds are not normally granted ater a course/programme o study has started unless a course is discontinued by the

    There is no reduction in ees in the case o an early departure rom a course.

    For English or International Students ees, students will be charged a proportional amount rom the week they enrol on the

    course until the end o their course. Students will not be able to pay in two instalments ater 1st November and must pay their

    ee in ull at enrolment.

    Accommodation in a amily home

    Students must pay a 13 0 deposit i Accommodation in a Family Home is required and this deposit is payable together with

    the course ee.

    Deposits are returned when a student leaves a host amily on condition that there are no outstanding payments or

    problems including, but not exclusive to, damage to property.

    Accommodation deposits are reunded in the case o visa reusal.

    Accommodation deposits are non-reundable once an oicial booking has been made with a host amily.

    The College cannot accept responsibility or arrangements made or inormation given by third parties other than by

    accredited Agents o the College.

    Any oer o a place on a course/programme o study at the College is based on inormation provided by the student at the

    time o application.

    Applicants requiring a student visa must provide the documents requested on the application orm checklist. These

    documents must include evidence o the applicants English skill level.

    All qualiications and skills presented to the College as evidence will be deemed genuine. I it is ound this is not the case, any

    place on a course oered by the College may be cancelled and no reund will be given.

    When an applicant cannot prove their English level, the College may request that the applicant sit an English test, and the

    results must be seen by the College, beore an oer can be made. In this case, the College will provide the applicant with

    details o the test, but will not cover any costs incurred.

    I an applicants language skills are not deemed suicient to ollow the chosen course successully, they will be oered an

    alternative course, where available.

    For students oered a place on an English course, acceptance o the place must be made beore the deadline on the oer

    letter. I a reply is not received by the college beore the set deadline, the oer will no longer be valid. Payment deadlines

    must be adhered to in order to guarantee your place on a course.

    Where an oer o a place on a course is made and a prior interview has not been possible, the College may later advise the

    student to transer to an alternative course i this is more suitable or the student.

    Examinations

    English or International Students (EIS) will be entered by the College to take a ormal exam at the end o their course o

    study, the cost o which is included in the course ee.

    Registration or ormal examinations will depend on the students attendance, progress and the advice o EIS teachers.

    Students will not be entered or an examination at a higher level than the class they are attending.

    Students wishing to take a Cambridge English Examination not recommended by EIS teachers or outside o the established

    periods above must apply to do so as an external candidate through the Exam Open Centre (EOC), and pay the cost o the

    examination separately.

    Students taking an exam through the EOC as an external candidate while on an EIS course o study may not be able to move

    on to the next level i there are no places available or i the tutor inds the move academically unsuitable.

    Students choosing to inish in December will also take the exam preparation course, which will be included in the course ee.

    Certiicates rom the Cambridge ESOL Exam Board will be posted to students rom the College at no extra cost. Students

    will need to ensure they provide the College with the address they would like the certiicate sent to when they sit their exam.

    The College cannot be held responsible or any changes o the dates set by National Exam Boards. The College will notiythe student o any changes at the earliest opportunity.

    General Terms and Conditions

    Every eort has been made to ensure the inormation published is correct and we will take all reasonable steps to ensure the

    courses and services described here within are provided.

    We reserve the right to make any changes to published inormation at any time. Where circumstances outside o the control

    o the College interere with its ability to provide these courses or services, we will make all reasonable eort to minimise any

    negative eects that result rom said changes.

    The College reserves the right to cancel or discontinue courses as advertised. The College will try to make alternative

    arrangements in these situations. In this case, and i no suitable alternative is ound, course ees will be reunded minus thetuition already taken.

    Students are required to enrol at or beore starting the course.

    At enrolment, you will be required to sign a declaration in which you agree to ollow the rules and regulations o CAVC,

    outlined in the College policies, which are available on the College website, intranet and Moodle.

    All students are expected to attend lessons regularly and punctually and complete all course work.

    I attendance alls below 90% in any given month and the students personal tutor has not been notiied o the reasons or

    this absence, and agreed to authorise the absence, the College reserves the right to withdraw the student rom the course.

    The College will make every reasonable eort to contact the student to inorm them o any attendance issues beore a

    withdrawal is made.

    No reunds will be given in these circumstances.

    The College will endeavour to run all classes on time and to schedule. In the event o an Act o Nature or third party whereclasses need to be cancelled to ensure the saety o students and sta, reunds will not be given.

    In the case o international students on a Tier 4 student visa, the College is obliged to comply with established UK

    regulations and notiy the UK Border Agency (UKBA) immediately i a student: does not arrive at the College within 10 days

    o the start o the course without prior agreement with the College, is asked to leave a course or any reason or leaves o their

    own ree will without agreement or notiying the College or i a student ails to comply with the attendance regulations. This

    may aect a students stay in the UK.

    The College may take photographs or ilm images o students during the course period either at the College or during social

    events organised by the College. These images may be used by the College or internal literature and/or publicity as well as

    externally available advertising either in print or on a website. Students not wishing or their images to be used must inorm

    the International Oice sta in writing at enrolment and sign the disclosure document to authenticate their choice.
