    RADIATOR

    12. Support the radiator with a hoist as shown, and remove the bolts securing the bottom radiator tank to the brackets (9).

    13. Remove the radiator. The top of the radiator must be tipped forward to clear the hydraulic pump shaft.

    14. Install the radiator in the reverse order of re-moval, replacing all worn or damaged gaskets and hoses.

    15. Fill the cooling system and check to see that there are no water leaks at the connections.

    DISASSEMBLY

    I. Remove the overflow tube (2).

    2. Remove the bolts securing the strips (4) and re-move the strips from the front and back of the core (5).

    3. Remove the bolts securing the plates (1) to the top tank (3) and remove the top tank.

PREPARING TO DISASSEMBLE RADIATOR I-Plates. 2-0verflow tube. 3-Top tank. 4-Strips.

    5-Core. 6-Bottom tank.

    4. Remove the bolts holding the plates to the bot-tom tank and remove the plates and the bottom tank from the core.

    ASSEMBLY

Before assembling the radiator, inspect all gaskets and sealing surfaces.

Clean the radiator water core of all accumulations of debris between the fins and tubes with water or

compressed air. Such accumulations decrease the efficiency of the cooling system and may cause the engine to overheat.

The inside of the radiator core, bottom tank, and the top tank should be cleaned with a solution of sal soda.

    1. With the gasket in place on the bottom tank (7) install the strips (5) and the bottom tank to core (6) but do not tighten the bolts.

    2. Install the plates (2) and (3) to the bottom tank but do not tighten the bolts.

    3. Install the top tank (1) with the gasket on the core and install the strips (4).

    RADIATOR ASSEMBLY I-Top tank. 2-Plate. 3-Plate. 4-Strip. 5-Strip.

    6-Core. 7-Bottom tank.

    4. Tighten all the bolts evenly.

    5. Install the overflow tube.

Test the radiator for possible leaks before install-ing the radiator on the engine. This can be accom-plished by plugging both the inlet and outlet open-ings, submerging in water, and using air pressure of 5 PSI.

    SEALED PRESSURE OVERFLOW

A sealed pressure overflow assembly is used to prevent loss of coolant through the radiator over-flow tube when operating at an angle.

Due to expansion of the coolant by rising tem-perature, a pressure will be built up in the cooling system each time the engine is started. When the pressure rises above 6 PSI, the pressure relief valve

AIR . INDUCTION AND EXHAUST SYSTEM

Air Induction and Exhaust System INLET MANIFOLD·

The inlet manifold is cast integrally with the cylin-der head and is located on the left side of the engine. The inlet maniJo!d has one external opening at the upper rear of the cylinder head for mounting the air cleaner.

Models equipped with gasoline starting systems have the exhaust pipe of the starting engine passing through the air inlet elbow. This warms the inlet air entering the diesel engine inlet manifold while the starting engine is running to aid in diesel engine starting.

    EXHAUST MANIFOLD

The exhaust manifold is of a one-piece construc-tion and is bolted directly to the cylinder head. Gaskets form the seal between the manifold and the cylinder head.

    Removal and Installation

The exhaust manifold (3) can be removed by re-moving the fuel injection lines (I), and the nuts (2) that secure the manifold to the cylinder head.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD I-Fuel injection line. 2-Nut. 3-Exhaust manifold.

New gaskets should be used when installing the exhaust manifold.

    AIR CLEANER

The air cleaner used on this engine is mounted at the rear of the inlet manifold. The cleaner is a tray-type and consists of a series of fine and coarse fixed screens (2), removable diffuser (3) and tray assem-bly (5).

Sealing between the cup assembly and the air cleaner prevent entrance of air into the air cleaner

which could by-pass the oil bath. In addition, seal-ing prevents oil from leaking to the outside of the air cleaner when the engine is operating on an incline. The sealing arrangement consists of an O-ring seal (4) between the oil cup and the air cleaner body.

AIR CLEANER (CROSS SECTION) I-Center tube. 2-Fixed screens. 3-Diffuser. 4-0-ring

    seal. 5-Tray assembly.

    2

    3

    4

    5

Ouring operation, air enters the air cleaner through the cent~r tube (1) and flows into the inner cup. From the inner cup, air carries oil up through the tray assembly (5) and diffuser (3), which spreads the oil over the fixed sc~eens. As the dirt ladened air passes through the oil covered screens, the dirt clings to the oil droplets. The mixture of oil and dirt fall to the outer cup and is held there relatively un-disturbed while the dirt settles to the bottom. The air continues through the fixed screens where further cleaning action takes place and then passes into the air inlet manifold.

    Removal and Installation

On models equipped with gasoline starting sys-tems, disconnect the starting engine exhaust pipe from the elbow (3).

Remove the nuts (2) and the bolts (4) which se-cure the air cleaner (I) and elbow (3), and remove the air cleaner and elbow.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
