Its four oclock in the morning and Roman Dirnbcks time is limited. The professional mountain guide is on his way to NFFUDMJFOUT JO;FSNBUU4XJU[FSMBOE)JTEBJMZSPVUJOFoCVUalso his big passion. Before sunrise he sits down with us to tell his story, a story of climbing all the 82 4000 meter peaks in the Alps.

Roman started his career as a mountain guide in 1992 and he has always loved the Western Alps. So he begins filling his personal tour diary with the highest peaks. Then, one day he has the idea of summiting all of the peaks in the Alps that are rising above 4.000 m but as guided climbs. Quite an ambitious target since many of the mountains espe-cially those around Chamonix are very challenging. You need perfect conditions. And you need a client who has the skills and experience to manage the hard ascents. In 2001 he met Roman Ecker, a young guy from Munich. We hit it off right away. For two years we bagged peak after peak in the Western Alps in summer as well as in winter, he remem-bers. And then came the Aiguille Verte... They say climbing Aiguille Verte makes an alpinist become a mountaineer we FOUFSFEUIFUPQ MFBHVF"GUFSBTIPSUCJWZOJHIU JOBGSFF[-ing cold toilet on the Grand Montet mountain station we climbed the Couloir Couturiere to the top a wall of 1.000 m, up to 60 degrees. We reached the peak just before sun-rise. And as a reward we had to descent as fast as possible via the Wyhmper Couloir to avoid rock fall. We were back in Chamonix in the afternoon And we knew we had passed the big test!

And Roman is also testing his material the hard way: usu-ally he uses and abuses our backpacks for a year and that means for 25 weeks! Im extremely happy with the durabil-ity of the packs, he says. I really need it as lightweight as possible and thats why the Guide Lite is my favourite. Yet Roman also knows that the key is and remains the perfect fit. That is what lightens the load. And they do fit perfectly!

Roman likes it high, he likes it light and he likes it fast. When-ever the conditions were not ideal, the two Romans tackled normal 4.000er peaks that were missing on their list. But whenever we had the chance we went for the top summits. Such as the Grandes Jorasses traverse which tags eight four-thousanders. In 2010 they climbed the famous Peuterey SJEHFi*UUPPLVTIPVSTGSPNUIF.PO[JOPIVUWJBUIF"J-guille Blanche and the Pilier d Angles to Mt. Blanc. The con-ditions were harsh. We had rain and snow, the terrain was challenging and it was such a long climb, too. On the spot at midnight we were standing on the highest mountain in the Alps. It was a starlit night a moment we will never for-get! However, on the way down to the Vallot bivy they had to fight heavy wind gusts of up to 80 km/h and minus 20 C. Two years later they had more luck with the conditions up

the Devils ridge to the Mont Blanc du Tacul despite hard passages at VI and 50 degrees. Now there were only two peaks missing on their list, but those were tough ones.

Back to Chamonix: The weather wasnt great and neither were all other conditions, but we still climbed the Aiguille Jardin and the Gran Rochuse, Roman says. Time for the big final: the Mt. Blanc by the way of the Broillard ridge bagging three 4.000 m peaks on the traverse. They already faced challenges on the approach at night when they hit a huge rift. The alternative: 15 metres of overhanging abseil-ing anchored in the snow by a crampon bag! Then they climbed a 50 degrees ice face followed by five pitches that turned out extremely hard: A sustained, strenuous climb up to IV+, frail, wet, partly icy, belaying was difficult and all this in the dark with our headlamps on. It got a bit easier after that, but the rock was still rather frail. At 8 in the morn-ing they were standing on top of the Pointe Luigi Amedeo, their final four-thousander. But it wasnt time to celebrate yet. Their plan was to climb via the Mt. Blanc du Courmayeur to Mt. Blanc. Hours later they finally summited the highest mountain in Europe for the fourth time. The finish line of a long, strenuous, yet unforgettable experience. Now there is plenty of room for new dreams, Roman says. And we are happy that our backpacks will be part of Romans future ad-ventures and will always lighten his load.

Child Safety and Comfort

The ergonomic design of the Deuter Kid Carriers is thought-through to the detail and was developed in cooperation with paediatric surgeon Dr. med Micha Bahr from the Ruhr University Bochum. It guar-antees a healthy and safe sitting posture for the child: the width of the seat varies in relation to the adjusted height and in combination with the footrests creates the perfect individual position.

Deuter Kid Comfort child carriers are all TV approved and carry the GS safety certificate. The TV tests the durability and function of the carrier, from frame to straps and closures, checking the han-dling and comfort as well as analysing the chemical properties of the material. The Kid Comfort child carriers are suitable for children who can sit upright by them-selves. The maximum load capacity (child 18 kg + gear 4 kg) is max. 22 kg.

The soft padded 5-point harness is easy to adjust to the right size. Bright yellow buckles clearly indicate the points that need to be secured for safe carrying

The height of the seat is easily and generously adjustable even when the child is already seated. Lift the buckle under the chin pad to lower the seat; or tighten the adjustment strap to lift the seat. Slip one hand under the seat to support the lift. The height adjustable seat perfectly accomodates the growing child, with the

chin at the level of the upper half of the chin pad.

Kid Comfort 2 & 3: The soft, ergonom-ic chin pad with side support provides comfortable stability for the head and the upper body, when the child falls asleep and slouches forward.

Height adjustable footrests prevent nerves getting pinched which can lead to cold legs or pins and needles. The foot rests are mobile, which encourages the child to kick with the legs and thus promotes circulation. The foot rests are attached in a way that prevents the child from standing up. If they extend their legs, they will just press against the back rest of the carrier.

The cosy cockpit has all-round padding and is lined in hypoallergenic fabric. It gives the child a sense of security without feeling cramped.

The sun roof option protects the childs sensitive skin from harmful sun rays, especially on hot summer days or at higher altitudes (sun roof for Kid Comfort Air & 2 available as additional acces-sory, on Kid Comfort 3 it is integrated). Mind: always ap-ply sunscreen even when the child is not exposed to di-rect sunlight!

The width of the seat cushions matches the adjusted height and thus gurantees an ergonomic sitting posture in com-bination with the specific footrest construction. The width increases with the height of the seat to guarantee a natu-ral spread squat position; the lower the seat the narrower the width for an upright sitting position.

The simple and safe side entry is very popular with Larger children, because they have the option of climbing into the seat by themselves. This al-so makes lifting smaller children into the pack much easi-er and minimises back strain.

The sturdy aluminium frame pro-vides a safe and stable free-stand with its wide kickstand and guarantees an easy access. Its frame geometry has no rough and sharp edges, is ex-tremely robust and features a soft fabric cover in the seat area (Kid Comfort 2 & 3). You can effortlessly extend and retract the kickstand while carrying. A click sound en-sures that the kickstand has snapped into its standing or transport position.

The Pull-Forward construction on the hip belt allows the hip fins to be positioned correctly even with a full load.

Two stable grab handles make the Kid Comforts easy to lift on the back without

additional help.

The S-shaped shoulder straps are inherently stable, come with an airy 3D AirMesh lining and comfortably curve over the shoulders.

With the Vari Fit System all Kid Comfort models can be effortlessly adjusted to the wearers individual back length. This is vital for the per-fect fit of the child carrier and guarantees a safe and bal-anced carry.

The anatomically shaped hip fins are made from multiple layers. The inner side has a layer of soft foam with 3D AirMesh lining for heightened comfort. The firm foam on the outside is modelled to the anatomic shape and transfers the load to the hips. Side compression straps on the fins regulate the load and increase stability.
