CASE STUDY- West Fork Beaver River, West Point, OH.
Constructed Sept. 2002
Minimal height Bendway Weirs in a gravel-cobble-sand-silt bed stream
Functions of Bendway Weirs on the West Fork Beaver River: Main function is realignment of the thalweg through the bend and also center the thalweg within the channel immediately downstream of the bend where a pipeline was exposed by erosion. The pipeline cover was protected with Articulated Concrete Mattress (ACM). Secondary function was to provide some bank stabilization within the bend.

Looking DS at the same 3 Bendway Weirs 5 years after construction. Fines in BW’s have washed out, but well
graded 18 to 24 inch stone is stable & bank is stable.

Great aquatic habitat due to the deep pools created by the Bendway Weirs. These pools
were full of high quality fishes, indicating that water quality is excellent. {5 years after project
completion}
