Problem to be Solved

• Accelerate time to revenue = agile, software-centric service delivery infrastructure

• Increase rate of data center transformation, CSPs require proven data center

platforms deployable in the central office:

• High density, scalable solutions

• Carrier-grade open hardware

• Rapid deployment and integration of open source and commercial software components

• Scalable software-based services and applications.

• Need a “Domain 2.0” Infrastructure

• Platform designed for rapid installation in data center environments customized to specific application needs

• Pre-integrated platform and management software, reducing application development and deployment risk

• Telecom application software, services and network operation frameworks and tools, to help operators deploy

agile, DevOps service development and delivery capabilities

Carrier Grade OCP Derived Platform

• Leverage Open Compute and Open Rack as a base model

• …true to OCP principles, rather than re-packaged chassis & blades

• Update and tune for telecom-oriented CO’s data centers practices

• Don’t constrain

• Rigid backwards compatibility not a hard requirement

• Easy adaptation of existing COTS elements (OCP-contributed and others)

• Agile-style approach to deployable system instantiations & iterate quickly

• Collaborate tightly with customers all along the way

• Work closely with interested partners

• Create something useful, share, evolve, and expand

Anatomy of Carrier Grade OCP

• Physical

• Suitable for CO retrofit and new telco data center environments

• 19” rack width and standard “RU” spacing for greatest flexibility

• 1000 to 1200mm cabinet depth, supporting GR-3160 floor spacing dimensions

• Content/workload

• Heterogeneous compute and storage servers

• Management

• Ethernet based OOB management network connecting all nodes via a TOR management switch

• Optional rack level platform manager

• Networking/Interconnect

• One or more Ethernet TOR networking switches for I/O aggregation to nodes

• Fiber cables, blind-mate with flexible interconnect mapping.

• Environment, power seismic & acoustic CO environmental requirements applicable

• Safety and other certification standards also applicable

• NEBS optional (L1/L3)
