Carrefour reduces building heat load with Thermal Barrier Paint
In the process of evaluating the Thermal Barrier Paint's performance and energy-saving potential, Carrefour Thailand painted half of a warehouse's rooftop. Temperatures were recorded simultaneously on both sides, the result demonstrated a dramatic heat load drop on the side painted. 1.1 Ton of CO2 are offset per year for up to 10 years by this project.

Heat load reduction after coating with Planet Supra Thermal Barrier Paint
Lopburi (Thailand), January 2010
Planet Supra is a Carbon Offset product: each 10 cans used reduce CO2 emissions by 1 Ton per year as certified by Carbon Offset Japan (COJ).
Project’s total carbon offset1.1 Ton of CO2 per year for 10 years
Project overviewBuilding: Carrefour Lopburi, ventilated warehouse (back of house)
Roof: 440m2 metal sheet half roof with skylights, aluminum foam insulation
Objective: to reduce building heat load
Solution: coat with Planet Supra Thermal Barrier Paint
• superior solar reflection performance per JIS 3106:1998(a):
- near-infrared rays area: 94.6%- thermal emittance: 93.6%- all wavelength band area: 92.3%- visible rays area: 90.4%
• 100% eco-friendly, helps fight Global Warming:- water based, VOC free- certified(b) to help mitigate global warming: offsets 1 Ton of CO2 per year
• 10 year lifespan, applicable like normal paint without need for primer
• non-inflammable, mold-free, crack-free(a) Japanese Industrial Standard (b) by Carbon Offset Japan - COJ
Half of the rooftop was painted in order to simultaneously record temperatures on the same building. The purpose is to clearly demonstrate Planet Supra’s benefits in reducing heat load and save on air-conditioning costs before rolling out the solution.
Roof outdoors and indoors surface temperature overview
Temperature differences recorded from Jan. 12th 11:45am to Jan. 20th 2:14pm, between painted and unpainted roof sections. Note how painted rooftop outdoors is now almost same temperature as unpainted roof backside indoors!
