Hydrometallurgy 2014 will provide a forum for the dis-semination of all research, development and production information relating to hydrometallurgical extraction, purification and recovery of base and precious metals. Papers relating to: waste treatment and minimization; environmental compliance and monitoring; automation, sensors and control in hydrometallurgy are also welcome. Updates on current hydrometallurgical operations, new project execution; health and safety initiatives and case studies relating to all aspects of hydrometallurgy are also sought.
The meeting will build on the success of six preceding conferences:• 1st International Symposium on Hydrometallurgy
held in 1963-Dallas, Texas, USA
• 2nd International Symposium on Hydrometallurgy held in 1973-Chicago, Illinois, USA
• 3rd International Symposium on Hydrometallurgy held in 1983-Atlanta, Georgia, USA
• 4th International Symposium on Hydrometallurgy held in 1993-Salt Lake, Utah, USA
• 5th International Symposium on Hydrometallurgy held in 2003-Vancouver, BC, Canada
• 6th International Symposium on Hydrometallurgy held in 2008-Phoenix, Arizona, USA
Technical topics include:• Extraction (Oxides/Sulphides)• Separation (Solvent Extraction/Ion Exchange)• Recovery (Electrowinning and Electrorefining)• Environmental Aspects• Teaching/Research in Hydrometallurgy• Controls and Automation• Operations/Start-up/Project Updates
ADVANCE NOTICE OF CALL FOR PAPERS• The Organizing Committee will be inviting the
submission of papers on any of the technical, scientific or economic themes described above.

INDUSTRIAL TOURSThe participants will have the opportunity of visiting some of the most important North American Hydro-metallurgy operations and projects immediately after the conference. Details on these plant tours will be provided in future Hydrometallurgy 2014 circulars and on the conference web page.
SHORT COURSEA three-day short course focusing on recent key techno-logical developments and current industrial trends, given by highly qualified experts, will be offered on the days immediately preceding the conference. The subjects to be covered include:
Introduction to hydrometallurgy; thermodynamics of hy-drometallurgical aqueous solutions; Eh-pH and other ther-modynamic diagrams; Leaching kinetics – models, theo-ry and applications; Mixing theory; Engineering theory of leaching – continuous stirred reactors; Heap leaching; Bioleaching; Solid liquid separation – thickening and fil-tration; Precipitation from aqueous solutions; Solvent ex-traction; Ion exchange; Principles of electrochemistry, electrowinning and electrorefining; Hydrogen reduction for metals production; Gold hydrometallurgy; Environ-mental considerations in hydrometallurgy; Chloride hydrometallurgy; Mass/energy balances for hydromet-allurgy; Thiosulphate leaching of gold; Platinum group metals recovery; the Bayer process; Performance of ma-terials of construction in hydrometallurgical operations.
Names of the lecturers will be announced in future circulars and on the conference web page.
