    Skin Traction

    y Achieved by applying devices to the skin thatindirectly affect the muscles or bones.

    Examples:Adhesive type material

    Bryant, Dunlop, Bucks extension

    Non adhesive material

    y Determine the activities the patient can do byhimself and which activities requires your assistance.

    y Basic considerations are nutritional needs, hygiene,

    and elimination needs and the need for some sort ofdiversional activities.

    y Always checkthe linen and pillow covers fordampness and wrinkling. change the covers regularly

    y When assisting with the bedpan or urinal, provide adequate time and privacy for the patient.
