The evolution of telematic within the waterborne area will enable more accurate and timely information, it will improve safety, quality and efficiency of waterborne and intermodal operations. However, to achieve the “SMART VTMIS and SMART SHIP, we need European & World Wide Standards requiring studies and thematic actions action For :-
• Protocols and standards for information priority and security.
• VTMIS, Waterborne / Intermodal Data Dictionary enabling codified language independent communication.
• The expected data explosion requires us to determine the scale of users needs to ensure the terrestrial and Satellite infrastructure will cope and to set appropriate.
• Technical Standards for Communication equipment & Frequency allocation for selected communication bearers used by all actors.
• Identification and resolution of safety critical user interface issues resulting from satellite based radio-navigation services (GPS, GNSS 1 and the future GALILEO) such as differences between map/chart and Satellite derived positions and harmonisation of augmentation techniques.
Telematics’ Standards for Smart VTMIS & Smart Ship
Generic Data management, communication and decision support tools for:-
• Low cost high speed data Communication (common to ALL vessels) • Remote Pilotage,• Correlation of Chart and Satellite Radio-navigation position• Path prediction and collision avoidance (taking account of geographic and environmental status)• Low cost Automatic Identification Systems & AIS visualisation for ALL vessels• Environment, Navigation, Weather and Traffic Image
