    Tools List

    The document provides installation instructions for all configurations of Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Racks (ILSCP24 and ILSCP48).Please read all instructions before installing this product.

    The Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Racks are shipped from the factory ready to install. The door, dimmer modules and the Rack ControlModule(s) may be shipped separately. The following steps are required to successfully install a Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Rack:

    Review this document completely

    Familiarize yourself with the installation procedure before you start.

    Unpack and inspect your equipment

    Check for physical damage to container(s). Compare the equipment you received with your packing list.

    Gather tools

    You will need the tools listed below.

    Pick an appropriate location for the rack

    The rack should be installed on an industrial grade floor. The room in which it is installed should have sufficient volume to allowexhaust air to circulate and cool. For more details and clearance requirements, refer to "Mechanical Considerations" on page 5 and con-sult system drawings. For environmental considerations refer to "Specifications" on page 51.

    Plan your wire routings and connection order

    Decide where your line, load, and control wiring will enter the cabinet.

    Cut openings and remove knockouts in the rack panels as required for conduit or busway entrance

    Perform all conduit connections to the rack before it is permanently installed. Be sure to remove all knockout pieces and debris fromthe cabinet. Seal all connections on the rack to allow for proper airflow.

    Install Rack

    Mount rack(s). Terminate all line, load, and control wires following the directions provided in this manual. Clean up work site andrack(s) for check out by Philips Lighting Controls Technical Services.

    Contact Philips Lighting Controls Technical Services when rack(s) is (are) installed and ready for Engineering Check Out. See "ENGI-NEERING CHECK-OUT REQUEST FORM" at the end of this manual.

    : You must have access to a main circuit breaker or other power disconnect device before installing any wiring. Besure that power is disconnected by removing fuses or turning circuit breaker off before installation. Installing the device withpower on may expose you to dangerous voltage and damage the device. A qualified electrician should perform this installation.

    : This product is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local or Federalcode specifications. To ensure full compliance with all codes and regulations, check with your local electrical inspector prior toinstallation. To prevent electrical shock, turn off power at fuse box before installation.

    LOCATIONThe rack should be installed on an industrial grade floor with sufficient load capacity to support it. For rack weights and dimensions,

    see "Specifications" on page 51. The room must be dry and must have sufficient volume to allow exhaust air to circulate and cool. If

    an undersized room is used, it must have air handling which is adequate to maintain the specified ambient temperature range (see

    "Specifications" on page 51).

    CLEARANCESThe rack must have a minimum of 18 inches of clear space above it for exhaust air and a minimum of 36 inches of clear floor space

    in front of it. Single racks or the right-most rack of bused racks require 2 inches of space to the right. See Figure 1 on next page for

    rack clearances. Refer to the National Electrical Code and local electrical codes to determine whether additional clearance around

    the rack is required.

    ROUTE LINE AND LOAD WIRINGLine Power wiring may enter the rack through removable plates on the top or bottom. See Figure 1 on next page.

    ROUTE CONTROL WIRINGDMX512 and/or Ethernet control wiring may enter the rack through knockouts in the top or bottom of the rack. Please note that the

    low-voltage wiring compartment is located at the top of the rack. If control wiring enters the rack through the bottom, it may be run

    through either of the hollow sides of the rack to the top compartment. See "Control Wiring" on page 21 for details.

    Control wires may also enter through side knockouts (see Figure 12 for knockout placement.) Load and Line wires should always

    enter the dimmer rack through a knockout via conduit. Check your local electrical code for more information.

    You must have access to a main circuit breaker or other power disconnect device before installing any wiring. Failure to disconnect

    power before installing or servicing your dimmer rack may result in injury or death.

    Mechanical Considerations

    Do not energize the CapioPlus IGBT Dimmer Rack until the wiring has been approved by a technician from Philips Lighting Controls. Contact Technical Support at+1-800-526-2731 to arrange for approval. Refer to page 53.

    CONNECTION ORDERThe Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Rack is designed to be wired from the front. For this reason it makes sense to complete the connec-tions at the back of the rack first, and the ones at the front last. We recommend connecting the Line Power wiring and Grounds (ifapplicable) first, and the Load Neutral and Load Hot wires last.

    Important: Dress wires neatly. Extra wire inside the rack can restrict airflow.

    CONNECTING LINE POWER WIRING (SINGLE RACKS )You must have access to a main circuit breaker or other power disconnect device before installing any wiring.

    Failure to disconnect power before installing or servicing your dimmer rack may result in injury or death.

    1. Run line power wiring from the power source to the top or bottom of the rack. See "Mechanical Considerations" on page 4 forfeed routing.

    2. Remove the wire access panel (Figure 16).3. Punch holes and install conduit fittings insert lining materials in the access panel opening.4. Replace the wire access panel if using conduit.5. Pull the line power cables through the prepared openings.

    : Wire openings must have fittings or linings to protect wire and cable insulation and to prevent air leaks.

    6. Strip 1-3/8" of insulation from the end of each cable.7. Terminate the Phase, Neutral, and Ground wires to their lugs. Line connections are labeled A, B and C (Figure 16). If necessary,

    the main lugs may be re-oriented for the direction of feed.8. Tighten the main lug set screws to the torque termination shown on the label inside the right wall of the rack (shown in part

    Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Racks may be bused together using the optional busing kit. To bus racks, you will need to remove the pan-els as described below before the racks are bolted together or secured to a wall.

    To bus two or more racks together:1. Determine which panels need to be removed. (Example: If you are busing two racks, the panel on the right side of the left-hand rack

    and the panel on the left side of the right-hand rack need to be removed.)2. Remove the eight screws as shown in Figure 17 from each panel you are removing. Save these screws - you will need them in Step

    8. Remove the panels and properly recycle the material.3. Level the racks and bolt them together (see "Mounting Several Racks Together" on page 12).4. Remove the phase lugs from the rack(s) that will not be fed from the main.5. Loosely attach the phase A, B, and C bus bars as shown in Figure 18. Leave hardware loose until all bus bars are in place.6. Loosely attach the Neutral bus bar as shown in Figure 18.7. Tighten all bolts.8. Insert the plastic rack divider (Figure 17) between the two racks. Attach it to the left-hand rack using the eight screws and screw

    holes from Step 2.

    : Do not operate bused racks without the plastic divider in place. Air leaks can inhibit rack ventilation, causingdimmers to overheat and shut down.

    To connect load wiring:

    1. Run load wiring to the top or bottom of the rack. If your rack has the optional Ground Bus, separate the load ground wires and route

    them to this bus.

    ote: Load wires should not be fed through the sides of the enclosure.

    2. If you have ground wires from your loads, strip 3/8" of insulation from them and connect using the torque values shown in the table

    at right.

    3. Separate the load neutral wires and route them to the load neutral terminals located on the neutral bus bar in the center of the rack

    (see Figure 2 on page 6). Strip 3/8 of insulation from the wires and terminate them using the torque values in the table below.

    CAUTIO: Use a separate wire for each neutral. Do not use common neutrals.

    4. Route the load hot wires to their individual connections. The load hot terminals are located on the dimmer back plane on the left

    side of the rack (see Figure 2 on page 6 and Figure 19 on the following page). If the load wires are top fed, work from top to bot-

    tom on the dimmer back plane as you connect the hots for each circuit in turn. If they are bottom fed, work from the bottom up.

    Important: Follow the circuit numbers printed on the load terminal connectors. The load terminals are not sequential from top to bot-

    tom! When wiring more than one rack, remember to add 96 to the numbers in the second rack, 192 to the third, etc.

    5. Strip 3/8" of insulation from the load wires. Do not exceed the bend radius shown in Figure 19 when inserting load wires.

    6. Tighten all terminations to the torque values shown in the table below.

    7. Dress load wires to the back of the rack.

    INSTALLING DMX512 CONTROL WIRING (SINGLE RACK)1. Run the DMX512 control wiring to the rack. Bring the conduit into the rack through the top conduit holes as shown in Figure 20.

    (Control wiring may also enter the rack from the bottom -- run the wiring up through either hollow side wall of the rack as shown inFigure 20 to the control wiring compartment.) Make sure you leave at least 12 inches of cable at the top compartment.

    2. Coil the DMX512 control wire at this point and leave it un-terminated inside the rack. A Philips Lighting Controls factory representa-tive will make the final DMX512 connections. Refer to "NOTICE TO CONTRACTOR" on page 53 for additional information.

    : Connecting your own DMX512 wiring voids your warranty and may cause damage to the rack.

    INSTALLING DMX512 CONTROL WIRING (MULTIPLE RACKS)1. Remove control wiring knockouts on the sides of each rack.

    2. Install 1" conduit fittings.

    3. Run a 24" DMX512 control cable from the inside of each rack to its adjoining rack.

    INSTALLING ETHERNET CONTROL WIRING (SINGLE RACK)All Ethernet terminations must be installed and tested to Category 5 standards by a certified/licensed network wiring technicia n.

    1. Run Ethernet wire to the rack. Bring the conduit into the rack through the top conduit holes as shown in Figure 20 to minimize thelength of the run inside. (Control wiring may also enter the rack from the bottom -- run the wiring up through either hollow sidewall of the rack as shown in Figure 20 to the control wiring compartment.) Make sure you leave at least 12 inches of cable at thetop compartment.

    2. Remove RJ-45 Ethernet connector from its panel in the upper left corner of the rack as shown in Figure 20.

    3. Terminate using 110-style punch down tool.

    4. Put connector back in place.

    5. Test all connections.

    6. If the Rack Control Module (ILSCPRCM) is present, use the short jumper (provided) to connect it to the network jack.

    7. If redundant Ethernet cabling is specified, connect the second cable to the second RJ-45 connector using the steps above.

    INSTALLING ETHERNET CONTROL WIRING (MULTIPLE RACKS )When more than one rack is being controlled via Ethernet, a hub or switch will be required for installation in close proximity to thedimmer racks. Each rack will receive its own Ethernet connection from the hub or switch in the manner previously described.

    : Many manufacturers are now using Category 5 wiring for DMX512. With the Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Rack,DMX512 must NEVER be connected using RJ-45 connectors. These connectors are for Ethernet connections only.

    FINISH AND TEST PROCEDURE

    Clean Rack Interior

    Remove all metal pieces, shavings, and wire scraps. Vacuum out any dust and dirt.

    Seal Air Leaks

    1. Replace any access panels removed during installation, or cover their openings.

    2. Seal conduit access holes.

    3. Seal any remaining air leaks using urethane aerosol foam.

    : Air leaks can inhibit rack ventilation and cooling. Dimmers may overheat and shut down without proper ventila-tion.

    Double-Check All Wire Terminations

    Check for misconnected wires, improperly torqued terminations, bare wires, loose connections, and damaged insulation.

    Check Line Power Wiring

    Use a digital voltmeter to check resistance between phases. The following results are typical:

    Resistance phase to phase should be 10 M or higher. Resistance all phases to ground should be 10 M or higher. Resistance neutral to ground should be 0 . Resistance phase to neutral should be 10 M or higher.

    Check Load Wiring

    Use a digital voltmeter to check resistance between the load terminals and the neutral bus. The following results are typical:

    1 M or higher is normal when no loads are connected. Between 1 and 1000 is normal when loads are connected. Below 1 indicates a short in the load wiring.

    : Energizing the rack prior to approval will void the warranty and may result in serious injury to yourself or dam-age to the equipment!

    ATTACHING THE DOORWhen all wiring and testing is complete, attach the rack door. Do not operate the rack without the door in place.

    1. Remove the two screws from the bottom of the rack (Figure 21).

    2. Attach the bottom hinge to the rack using the screws removed in Step 1.

    3. Insert the pin of the bottom hinge into the hole in the bottom of the door.

    4. Remove two screws from the top of the rack.

    5. Insert pin of top hinge into hole on top of door. Attach hinge to rack using screws removed in Step 4.

    6. Close and open the door a few times to make sure it latches and unlatches easily. If it does not, loosen hinge screws and readjust.

    Important: Put the rack key in a safe place or turn over to owner.

    MAINTAINING CLEANLINESSIf the room will be subject to sheet rock dust or other debris, protect the rack with plastic wrap. Do not energize rack with plastic in

    place. Failure to keep rack clean may affect proper operation and void warranty.

    INSTALLING DIMMER MODULESCapio Plus Dimmer Modules are easy to slide in place without tools. Please do not insert modules until your installation is ap provedby an Lightolier Controls technician.

    1. Make sure that the circuit breakers are off and their latch is pushed to the right.

    2. Insert the edges of the dimmer module circuit board into the right and left guides ( Figure 22 ).

    3. Push the module in until the alignment pins at the back seat firmly into the connector on the dimmer back plane, and the dimmer isseated firmly against the metal frame of the rack.

    4. Slide the circuit breaker handles and their latch to the left, and into the slot in the frame of the rack.

    : If you are installing modules of different types, please consult system drawings for the placement order. Modules of differentpower ratings are keyed to prevent improper insertion.

    : To remove modules, turn circuit breakers off and slide the latch to the right before pulling module straight out.

    INSTALLING THE RACK CONTROL MODULE(ILSCPRCM)1. Insert ILSCPRCM into slot ( Figure 23 ).

    2. Push the ILSCPRCM until alignment pins at back seatfirmly into connector and module is seated firmly againstmetal frame of rack.

    OVERVIEWCapio Plus IGBT Dimmer Racks can be configured directly at the RCM using the built-in LCD Menu. Please note that while thebuilt-in menu will display all system status information, it has limited configuration capabilities. Only Guardian software provides aninterface for configuring all IGBT Dimmer Rack options. The following section provides instructions for configuring and viewing sys-tem status using the RCM LCD Menu. Where applicable, refer to the corresponding Guardian instructions for full explanations of eachconfiguration option. Guardian instructions can be found in "Configuring RCM Using Guardian" starting on page 32.

    LCD MENU OPERATIONThe RCMs LCD Menu provides local control for accessing all system status information and for making a limited amount of configu-ration changes to that particular RCM. (If there are multiple RCMs in the system, changes would need to be made at each RCM.)Upon power up, the LCD Menu will display the Philips Lighting Controls logo followed by the current RCM software version and RCMname (assigned using the Guardian software). If no name has been assigned, the unit will display "CP Dimmer Rack" in the name f ield.After briefly displaying this information, the MAIN MENU will appear.

    : To return to the power up screen after boot up, press the [Escape] button.

    MENU SYSTEMThe RCM menu system consists of eight main

    categories as shown in Figure 12.

    To navigate the menus, press the four naviga-

    tion buttons as required (Figure 11). When the

    desired menu is reached, press [Enter] to dis-

    play the menu options. Use navigation and

    [Enter] buttons to view status and configure

    RCM as required.

    System Status

    Displays system settings and dimmer status

    information. Menu will display "OK" if all

    dimmers are normal and an appropriate error

    message if not. No settings may be changed at

    this menu.

    Dimmer Status

    Displays information and status for each dim-

    mer, such as name, temperature, load, etc. No

    settings may be changed at this menu.

    Select Presets

    Allows selection and/or configuration of eight

    presets.

    Menu Configuration

    Allows configuration of the LCD Menu itself as follows:

    Display ON - This option sets a time for the LCD Menu to turn off when not in use. Time is set in minutes. (The ALWAYS option

    keeps the menu on at all times.)

    LED ON - This option sets a time for the RCM Status LEDs to turn off after power up. Time is set in minutes. (The ALWAYS option

    keeps the LEDs on at all times.)

    Display Contrast - This option configures the LCD Menu backlight contrast. This is set as a percentage of 100.

    System Configuration

    Allows configuration of various system options. The Config Port setting allows a PC to be connected via the serial port for non-

    Pathport RCM units.

    Allows configuration of dimmer options for all dimmers in the system (up to 96).

    Capio Plus IGBT Dimmer Racks can be configured using a Windows compatible personal computer running Guardian software.Only the Guardian method provides an interface for configuring all system options. Guardian software is available in two versions: Guardian SE (Setup Edition)Guardian SE is used to configure Capio Plus Systems. A Guardian SE computer can be connected to the RCM several ways dependingon the type of RCM :1. Through the RCM serial port (non-Pathport RCM).2. Directly through the RCM Ethernet port with an Ethernet turnaround (crossover) cable (Pathport Enabled RCM only).3. Through the RCM Ethernet port over an Ethernet network (Pathport Enabled RCM only).

    Guardian NT is used to configure, monitor, and report errors for the Capio Plus System. A Guardian NT computer can be connected viaan Ethernet network, or connected directly to the Pathport Enabled RCM Ethernet port. Guardian NT is sold as a separate upgrade to the standard Guardian SE program, and cannot be used by non-Pathport RCM systems.Contact your Authorized Philips Lighting Controls Dealer to upgrade to Guardian NT.     A Pathport system is a data manager that utilizes a distributed network of devices that are capable of adding data to, or reading datafrom the network. Because the system is distributed, every device has access to all of the information being carried on the system, andcan be configured to use the data differently than any other device on the system. The ability of every device to individually processdata provides the amazing power of Pathport.

    By distributing the processing of network data, a Pathport system is able to grow and re-configure to meet the changing needs of afacility with the minimum possible effort and expense.Guardian software and the Capio Plus System use the industry standard Pathport network licensed from Pathway Connectivity.Pathway Connectivity is the leading data communications company in the entertainment lighting industry. Basic setup of the Pathportnetwork requires the Pathport Manager application, which can be downloaded at: http://www.pathwayconnect.com

    For Pathport Enabled Capio Plus Systems, the PC may be plugged into any Ethernet control port (including the Ethernet port) in thecontrol system using a CAT5 patch cable.

    Connecting to the Control Module (Pathport Enabled RCM):For Pathport Enabled Capio Plus Systems, to connect directly to the RCM, you will need an Ethernet turnaround cable (also know nas a crossover cable).

    Once you have installed Guardian software on a PC and connected it to the Capio Plus System(s) via the network, you may set upoptions and configure individual dimmers.

    DISCOVERYGuardian SE or NT will automatically discover and display a list of all Capio Plus Systems connected to the network. Once all the unitshave been discovered, it is best to Save the configuration. See "Saving Files" on page 26.

    CAPIO PLUS SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONGuardian can configure the RCM and each Dimmer in an Capio Plus System system. Any configuration of the RCM or Capio PlusSystem requires an Administrative Login.Guidelines: Select the Capio Plus System to be configured from list at the left of the display. (There will only be one Capio Plus System to con-

    figure if directly connected to the RCM.) The first time an RCM is selected, configuration data from the unit will be downloaded to the PC (this may take several seconds). Dimmers are dynamically updated as changes are made. Changes to the RCM page require Send data for update. If the Capio Plus System is connected to the serial port, then Get Status is required.

    ADMINISTRATIVE MODEAny configuration of the RCM or dimmers requires an Administrative Login.To log into Administrative Mode:1. At File Menu, select Admin Login.2. Enter password: Genlyte3. [Administrative Mode] will appear on the Title Bar. Guardian will remain in Administrative Mode until you Logout or close

    SAVING FILESThe Save function will save a Dimmer Network file. This file stores the following information: List of connected Capio Plus Systems. Which Capio Plus Systems or Dimmers should be ignored. Sampled load for each dimmer.

    1. From File menu, select Save or click Save button on toolbar.2. Enter a file name and directory and click Save.

    : Multiple files can be saved for different arrangements of the Capio Plus network.

    DIMMER LOAD SNAPSHOT (GUARDIAN NT ONLY)

    The Snapshot function, available with Guardian NT (sold separately*), is used to sample the load of all dimmers in the systemand remember the load for future comparison.

    During polling, the load connected to each dimmer is compared to the sampled load and any variation that is reported. Setup load comparison by selecting Email / Log File on the Setup menu.

    : The dimmer cannot measure the load unless the dimmer is ON. In order to store accurate loads in the snapshot, each dimmer must have been set to a level greater than 10% for at least 60 seconds. All dimmers do not need to be on together, however, they must be on for a period prior to taking the snapshot.

    TOTAL LOAD REPORTING (GUARDIAN NT ONLY )

    The Total Load function, available with Guardian NT (sold separately*), will display an approximation of the total load on eachphase of the system.

    Total Load assumes a properly wired, three-phase electrical system. The load is calculated by adding the load on each individual dimmer.

    : The dimmer cannot measure the load unless the dimmer is ON. In order to store accurate loads, each dimmer must have been set to a level greater than 10% for at least 60 seconds. In this case, the RCM will need to be setup for direct serial connection.To access and configure a non-Pathport RCM:1. Connect PC to RCMs serial port. Refer to "Connecting a PC to the Capio Plus System" on page 31.2. Using the LCD Menu, select System Configuration then select Config Port. Change the port from ETHERNET to RS232 and press

    [Enter].3. The RCM is now configured for RS232 mode.4. Launch Guardian and login to Administrative mode. Refer to "Administrative Mode" on page 40.5. Click on desired RCM at left of display.     Circuit

    The circuit number of each dimmer in the system.

    Description

    The name of each dimmer set using Dimmer Setup.

    Error

    Any error reported by the dimmer from the list of possible errors. Errors are as follows:

    ote: Constant Circuit Modules will show the Error message "Not Present."Load

    The load in Watts (100 watt increments). If Snapshot is enabled, the variation from the sampled load will be displayed in parentheses.

    Level

    The current level of the dimmer in percentage and DMX512.

    Temp

    The current temperature of the dimmer in degrees Celsius.

    Yellow - Temperature is approaching a dangerous level.

    Red - Temperature is above a safe level and the dimmer has shutdown.

    Status

    The current status of the dimmer.

    Line

    The current Line Voltage at the system.

    Mod Size

    The size of this dimmer module in maximum wattage.

    SW Ver

    The version number of the dimmer firmware.

    MESSAGE MEANING

    mis-wire Dimmer power-up diagnostics sensed a line voltage greater than 185 VRMS.

    watchdog Dimmer firmware has been restarted after a software loop took too long to execute.

    supply The dimmers 18V power supply has dropped below 14 volts.

    overtemp Dimmer has exceeded safe temperature and has shut down.

    overload Dimmer has detected an overload (excessive current) due to a short circuit or a load that exceeds the dimmers rating.

    igbt An IGBT has failed.

    rom The read-only memory checksum is incorrect.

    analog Either the voltage or the current-sensing electronics has failed.

    not present The module slot is empty or contains a Constant Circuit Module.

    A PC running the Guardian Configuration Utility can tell you many things about the system.Troubleshoot using the Guardian Configuration Utility:Connect the PC to the Capio Plus System as described on page 16. Use the directions in "Basic Guardian Operations" on page 25, toaccess the Capio Plus System configuration. From there, you can check for dimmer errors.To physically examine the system:1.     To terminate Ethernet cable:

    1. Strip off outer jacket - approximately 1-1/2" (37.6mm)

    2. Fit a piece of 1-1/8" (28.6mm) long heatshrink tubing over the cable extending out 1/4" (8.25mm) from outer jacket.

    3. Terminate approximately 1/2" (12.2mm) from end of conductors on Type 110 punch down block or connector per schedule (T568B)
