Recently, there have been numerous NSW Health infectious diseases alerts regarding measles across NSW.
Measles is a serious, highly contagious, viral illness that is easily
spread through the air when an infectious person coughs, sneezes or breathes. The virus can stay in the air for short periods of time (around 15 minutes), so simply being in the same room as someone with mea-
sles can result in infection even after the infected person has left.

I have seen a big improvement in my son in writing and reading which helps him with his spelling and how to write story
The conference reinforced what I have seen at home.
I’m very happy and you organise very good about study.
Very happy.
It’s good to have a conference like this and I hope the school will be successful with this organisation.
I really enjoyed setting goals with ______. How will we know _______ has achieved them?
I am very happy with the teacher and her teaching methods regarding _______. I feel _______is learning and improving in ____.
Thanks for organising the conference. The artworks are similar between the students. I would love to see more creativity between individuals. Love to explore more about the other students as well. (After clear explanation of the artwork I saw how different they really were and appreciated the differences.
Having my child set goals to learn is important. Thank you.
I will take this opportunity to express my happiness and share with teachers accordingly. This is a good oppor-tunity to let us (parents) understand about how my child studies throughout the year. Hope we have more chances to do this in the near future. May God Bless You and the staff at Canley Heights School.
Thank you, teachers and students, for providing their skills and work participation during student led confer-ences.
Thank you for being a great teacher and role model for our daughter ________. This year she has been really happy and always looking forward to coming to school every day.
It was good.
My child is learning good and setting goals.
Teachers are Learners Too Our staff continued to engage in professional learning activities throughout the last two weeks. Across the school
we had teachers attend a variety of workshops and meetings.
L3 training– refining the teaching of reading and writing K-2
Curiosity and Powerful Learning– questioning and challenging
learning tasks
Data talks 3-6– analysing student work and planning for teaching
On Tuesday 28th May, Stage 2 students went on an excursion to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. At the Botanic Gardens we participated in a variety of experiences. We conducted the ‘First Encounters Tour’ and extended our knowledge and understand-ing about the gruelling journey on the First Fleet and the impact of British colonisation on the local Aboriginal people. We heard about the problems the first settlers had growing crops at Sydney Cove.
We also learnt more about the Gadigal people, listened to the didgeridoo, learnt actions to Aboriginal songs and how to count to 5 in Gadigal and then we played a fun counting game.
We also explored the “Plants with Bite” exhibition at the Calyx. We were all amazed at the largest vertical floral wall in the southern hemisphere and we saw a variety of carnivorous plants. We explored the gardens, saw the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and enjoyed a picnic lunch surrounded by beautiful exot-ic and native plants. Some students were even lucky enough to catch a glimpse of LazarBeam (a YouTuber) which caused great excitement.
All students displayed out-standing behaviour. It truly was a wonderful day, full of sunshine, fun, and memora-ble experiences for all.

LEARNING AND SUPPORT The Learning and Support team have been working alongside classroom teachers and students all year to en-sure students receive the necessary support in order to meet curriculum outcomes. In Stage 1, our students have been working hard to write their information reports about Vietnam as part of our writing program. Students have looked at Vietnamese culture, geographic location, clothing and traditions.
In stage 2 and 3 we have been exploring all different kinds of text each week and making sure that we are creating wonderfully imaginative stories, wildly persuasive arguments and exploring and learning about differ-
ent places and animals through our information reports. We have also been keeping busy going on our treasure hunts for addition and subtraction puzzles and making fun fraction lines during our math groups on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays! Stage 2 and 3 have also been reading ‘The Bad Guys’ series by the amazing Australian author and illustrator, Aaron Blabey. We have been reading with expression, paying attention to grammar and laughing at Aaron Blabey’s eye-popping drawings and hilarious text. The Learning Support team provides in class and withdrawal support on various days throughout the week with the goal of helping students at Canley Heights reach their writing, mathematics and reading goals.
