After the Paris attacks … Canadians are spilt 52% agree and 48% disagree that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should stay committed to his campaign promise to remove Canadian CF-18 jets from the airstrike mission against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria. Despite the public split on the withdrawal of CF-18s… - 68% of Canadians agree that they support the use of Canadian Forces fighter jets in the international coalition’s airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria. - 62% agree that they support the use of Canadian Forces on the ground in a combat mission against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. - 73% believe the coalition of allies can win the war against ISIS. On the issue of accepting 25,000 refugees before December 31st, 60% of Canadians disagree that Canada should “immediately accept up to 25,000 government- sponsored refugees in 2015” while 40% agree with this initiative.

When comparing the views of citizens in Canada, the UK and the US, Canadians appear to be slightly more positive about the prospects and plans for bringing refugees into Canada. Canadians are: - More confident (48%) that their border and security forces can identify potential terrorists. - More likely (40%) to say that Canada has the room for refugees and should bring in as many as we can. - More likely (57%) to say they are confident that refugees will successfully integrate into society. Even though Canadians appear more supportive than their UK or US counterparts, 80% of Canadians say all refugees must go through proper security screening no matter what their situation is and 33% agree that Canada should close it borders to refugees entirely.
