New Journal edition releasedThe latest issue of the USIU Journal of Language, Technology & Entrepreneurship (Vol. 3 No. 1) was published by African Journals Online (AJOL) on May 30.Edited by Dr. Kang’ethe Iraki Associate Professor of French, the journal covers a wide-range of cross-disciplinary topics such as language, technology, entrepreneurship, finance and communication. By promoting dialogue across disciplines, it emphasizes the interconnectedness of knowledge, making it ideal for scholars eager to venture into other disciplinary horizons. The next issue will be published in at the end of 2011.

CEED closer to 10000 graduatesThe Center for Executive and Entrepreneurial Education (CEED) on Thursday May 26 hosted the third graduation ceremony under the 10,000 Women Certificate program presided by USIU alumna and CEO Branding Strategy & Design Eva Muraya.The program, is a 5-year initiative of one of the world's largest investment firms, goldman Sachs, to provide entreprenuerial education to women developing countries through partnering business schools in the US and Europe , with counterparts in the developing world.Since 2008, USIU's Chandaria School of Business has trained ninety small business owners with skills ncessary to take their business to the next level.Right: Eva Muraya, CEO Branding, Strategy and Design, takes the scholars through a presentation on Branding during the graduation ceremony on Thursday May 26.

Movie and music stars descend on campusThe Kenya Nollywood Roadshow pitched camp in USIU on Thursday May 26. Led by Nigerian High Commisioner His Excellency Chief Chijioke Wilcox Wigwe, well-known actors and actresses from the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as 'Nollywood'.USIU's music club Michezo Afrika, presented their award-winning play "Angels in Darkness" to acclaim from the Nollywood stars - Sam Loco, Francis Duru, Patience Uzokwor, Desmond Elliot, Monilisa Chinda, Uche Jumbo and John Okafor. On the same night, USIU also hosted a concert headlined by the renowned The Villagers Band led by Keyboardist Chris Adwar.The concert which ended with the audience on their feet, was organised by the Music Club to raise funds for new equipment.

Insurance firm launches leadership projectOn Friday May 20, USIU became the first stop of a new project to impart leadership skills to fifteen universities around the country. The Leadership, Culture and Ecology Project of the CIC Foundation, also seeks to promote ecological sensitivity and enhance cultural integration among students across the country.The keynote speaker, Prof. Patrick Lumumba Director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission urged the over 200 USIU students present to look within the continent for solutions to solve this century's problems. will took part in the inaugural “Am A Cooperator” Leadership Seminar and were addressed by VC Prof. Freida Brown and CIC Insurance CEO Mr. Nelson Kuria.

RBA receive research findingsThe findings of a study undertaken by USIU faculty on, financial literacy of members of occupational pension schemes in Kenya in November 2010, was handed over to the Retirement Benefits Authority CEO Edward Odundo on Friday, May 13. The study explored and recommended initiatives and strategies that can increase the participation of members in 1, 308 pension scheme across the country.Aside from student support in collecting data from schemes across the country, other contributors were Information Systems Lecturer Leah Mutanu, Research Associate John Otsola and Academic Advisor Virginia Thuku.

Leaders learn the ropes at retreatStudent leaders gathered for their annual retreat from 18 - 21 April at the Lukenya getaway to familiarise themselves with student government policies and procedures following their election in March this year. They learnt, bonded and had fun as various departmental heads from all over the university took them through the particular functions they will be handling.The retreat was organised officials from the Student Affairs Division and attended by club, sports team and Student Affairs Council (SAC) officials.
