Primary @ Reddam Dear Parents and Caregivers, There are many things about Reddam House that are unique, but nothing is quite as unique to us as the incredible pace at which we begin our school terms. While the students are fresh and eager, teachers have monopolised on the energy and excite- ment with which the students have applied themselves this week. The lower primary students were immersed in lessons, the upper primary students have attended their camps and excursions, forging new friendships and developing leadership skills. It has truly been a wonderful week. This week Year 4 students attended the Annual Zoo Snooze which took place at Taronga Zoo, Whilst our Year 5 and 6 students have been away on their annual friend- ship and leadership camps. Year 5 attending Kincumber and Year 6 attending Tea Gar- dens, Thank you to the staff who attended the camps and for the planning and organiz- ing that went into creating such a wonderful experience for the students. On Thursday evening, we hosted a very effective and Informative Cocktail Evening with the K – 2 parents and caregivers, where teachers were able to detail the important infor- mation about the upcoming year to ensure that everyone is aware of the expectations and goals of this year. Next week, we will host an information evening for Year 5 parents and caregivers, and I urge all to attend. It provides a good opportunity for new parents and caregivers to meet other families too. This week, I have had the privilege of seeing many students come down to my office to show me their work. Not only was I impressed with their work, but also with their growing confidence and pride in themselves. In particular, this week I congratulate the Year 1s for their work in writing and reading. Keep it up! Our Year 6 students are well on their way to becoming the leaders of the school. On camp, they were exposed to many forms of leadership and have practice on how to lead, follow and work as a team. On Wednesday next week, students in year 6 will all be inducted as councillors at a very auspicious event in Adelaide Hall. Further to that, after voting for their senators and house captains, these students will be announced and their official roles as leaders will commence. On Thursday evening, there will be a meeting for the 2016 Gathering of the Tribes where students from Reddam House Schools across the world meet to enjoy a multicultural ex- perience. The Gathering is open to students in Year 6 – 11 and parents and caregivers of our Year 6s are invited to join us in Adelaide Hall at 7pm for further information about the event. Dear Parents and Caregivers,
There are many things about Reddam House that are unique, but nothing is quite as
unique to us as the incredible pace at which we begin our school terms. While the

Music Evenings
Congratulations to Daniel Shields, Tommy Malki, Aalilyah Ibrhaim and Talia Shapiro who
competed in the Regional Little Athletics competition last weekend. This is a fantastic
achievement and one of which to be very proud. Keep up the fantastic effort!
With the success of the Music Programme at Reddam House we are very excited to
announce that a new dedicated music centre will be opened in the very near future. The
establishing of the centre will allow for the whole Music Department to operate from the one
space with specifically designed features to enhance teaching and learning. The centre will
include administrative offices, 3 classrooms, rehearsals spaces and 17 tutor/practice rooms.
I wish the students who are taking part in sports this weekend the best of luck for a positive start
to their league games. As always, I remind all players that good sportsmanship will always win
in the long run so stay humble in your victory and brave in defeat.

The Kindergarten students have settled in so beautifully and have been bouncing through
the school gates. They are all so eager to learn, play and make new friends. Our topic this
term is ‘Marvellous Me’ and the students have started to bring in baby and family photo-
graphs of which they are very proud. On Monday our topic made great cross-curricular links
with our Mathematics outcomes where we have been looking at long and short. The stu-
dents used string to measure the length of each other. We then placed it in a carefully deco-
rated envelope so that we can make comparisons at the end of the year and see how
much they’ve grown.
The students have loved learning their numbers and sounds and are enjoying singing songs to
help them remember the order. They have enjoyed playing maths games on the big white
boards. On Tuesday the students made their very own Humpty Dumpties to link with our new
‘h’ sound.
Here are some of the things that our new Kindy students love about being at Reddam House.
Tyson Bartholomew: I like doing all the Art.
Zoe Ching: I liked getting a lollypop when I learnt the ‘l’ sound.
Isaac Nakhl: I like going to the big playground.
Joshua Tancred: I liked making the lion when we learnt the ‘l’ sound.
Micah Shields: I like when we sit at our desks and do work.
George Negus: I had lots of fun doing puzzles in the morning.
Bronte Trefillitti : Sophie and I built a big maze using the magnetic sticks.

KINDERGARTEN
The Year ones have had a very busy and exciting start to 2016. We have been finding out
some interesting facts about each other through some speaking and listening games. Other
lessons included drawing and painting self portraits, creating patterned tiles, playing mathe-
matical and literacy games and working hard on our spelling and handwriting skills.
The students have quickly settled into routines and it’s been wonderful to have such a posi-
tive start to the term.

YEAR 1
This week Year Two students have adjusted to new routines very well. The children have been
very creative, constructing tessellated patterns in Mathematics. Students have been playing
games and getting to know their new friends. In History lessons we are exploring the differ-
ences between families in the past and present. Everyone is exploring how technology has
impacted the way that people live today. Everyone is looking forward to our upcoming
excursion to the Old Schoolhouse Museum.
YEAR 2

The Year 3 students enjoyed a fantastic start to the year, heading off to Centennial Park on
an excursion to begin the new Science topic - ‘Mini Beasts’. The students enjoyed dip netting,
bug catching and a fantastic craft activity, where they were able to create their very own
clay model of their favourite minibeasts! Year 3 were very excited to get up close and per-
sonal with all the different minibeasts in their natural habitats. They caught a variety of
minibeasts including grasshoppers, caterpillars, ladybugs, centipedes, stink beetles, mosquito
fish and even caddisfly larvae! The general consensus was ‘outstanding’ as each student re-
turned to Reddam with a giant smile on their face and a new found appreciation for all
creatures great and SMALL!

MUSIC
Year 4 ventured to Taronga Zoo this week to experience an overnight Zoo Snooze. Students
walked excitedly around the zoo on a private night tour, observing many nocturnal animals.
We were treated to a spectacular fireworks display and a stunning sunset panorama. After a
good night’s sleep and breakfast, the children were able to interact with numerous small ani-
mals. The seal show and bird show were some special highlights before students returned ex-
hausted, to school. Not only did this Zoo Snooze experience strengthen our current scientific
study of the interdependence of animals and plants, it proved to be a valuable bonding
time for the many new students to Reddam House. What a fantastic start to Year 4. We look
forward to many more amazing experiences.
