I'm sure you get your share of complaints concerning your students but I would like to share an uplifting experience I witnessed this morn- ing. I was travelling on the 389 bus from Woollahra to Bondi Junction at about 8am this morning with my 10 year old daughter. A young man from your school - he looked as though he was probably in year 7 or 8 - was getting off the bus and stopped to let a young girl get off before him. He then offered his hand in support to an older man who was having difficulty in getting off the bus. It was very simple and that is the whole story. I have never writ- ten a message like this before but I was moved by this act of instinctive kindness and I wanted to let you know. I have no idea who the young man is but he is clearly a credit to his family, his school and himself. He did not change the world but, through his small act, he set an example for others and brightened the morning of those who witnessed his actions and I very much wanted to commend him.‖ Random acts of kindness are what make the world a better place and this is a message that I have been shar- ing with students. I once more reinforced the importance of being a respectful, positive member of the community by sharing this letter in assembly. Congratulations to the student concerned. Following tremendous success in their section last Sunday, we are thrilled to advise that the Middle School Singers (the combined Year 7 Vocal Ensemble and High School Singers) have secured a place in The John Lamble Foun- dation Australasian Choral Championship to be held on Sunday 4 th June. This week the Music Department presented its annual Wind and Brass Competition. Our adjudicator this year was Phil O'Neil, principal trumpet with the Royal Australian Navy Band. The evening began with performances from the Senior Flute Ensemble and the Senior Jazz Band to set the mood for the remainder of the evening. The Senior Jazz Band will be performing at the Sydney Eisteddfod next week and this was an excellent opportunity to pre- sent their performance works. In the Intermediate Section there were eleven entries with Flute, Clarinet, and upper and lower Brass all repre- sented for the first time. Phil was spoiled for choice in terms of awards. He awarded 3rd Place to Liam Wright (Trumpet), 2nd Place to Lucy Hemner-Cwirn (Flute) and 1st Place went to Yoni Herz (Alto Saxophone). The Senior Section was small but elite. Lucas Leung per- formed one of his HSC works and Adam Petrovic per- formed his solo improvisations in Caravan by Duke Elling- ton. Both performances were blistering. Phil awarded 2nd Place to Adam and 1st Place to Lucas.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As you can imagine I get a host of emails on a daily ba-sis. When I received the one included below, it made my week.
―It is convenient and lazy to place the blame for many of
society's ills - real or imagined - on the shoulders of the young. Like most people, I am guilty, at times, of think-ing ...that would never have happened when I was a kid… conveniently forgetting that, of course, regrettable
things did happen when I was a kid and that the majority of people, regardless of age or any other definition, are decent, respectful and caring. I'm sure you get your share of complaints concerning your students but I would like to share an uplifting experience I witnessed this morn-ing.

Following tremendous success in their section last Sunday,
we are thrilled to advise that the Middle School Singers (the combined Year 7 Vocal Ensemble and High School Singers) have secured a place in The John Lamble Foun-dation Australasian Choral Championship to be held on Sunday 4th June.
The Senior Jazz Band will be performing at the Sydney Eisteddfod next week and this was an excellent opportunity to pre-sent their performance works.
In the Intermediate Section there were eleven entries with Flute, Clarinet, and upper and lower Brass all repre-sented for the first time.
Lucas Leung per-formed one of his HSC works and Adam Petrovic per-formed his solo improvisations in Caravan by Duke Elling-ton. Both performances were blistering. Phil awarded 2nd Place to Adam and 1st Place to Lucas.
The Year 12 Executive organised a Social for the Prefects
from other schools. They hosted the event on the roof-
top at Woollahra on Thursday afternoon and enjoyed
the most magnificent sunset while Mr. Francis put them
through a Trivia competition. This was great fun for all
and the ice was well and truly broken by the time they
shared a dinner and the informal conversations that en-
sued.
Twenty of our students attended the AICES rugby trials
on Wednesday in the U16 and U18 divisions. Congratula-
tions to Connor Garratt and Mitch McKay for their inclu-
sion in the U16 side and to Jimmy Flaherty, Tate Kemeny,
Toby Fox and Hudson Berry for making the 1st XV. Con-
gratulations on this achievement and good luck in the
next round.
Toby and Hudson were also selected for CIS Touch Foot-
ball Team: incredible!
Congratulations also go to Fox Bengtsson who has
gained selection for the CIS Football (Soccer) Team.
What great news from the Sports Department.
On Monday the Annual HSC Visual Art Showcase will be
available for all to view from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The
twenty eight students‘ works are impressive and any stu-
dents who are considering Art as a subject should make
the effort to attend to see the standard that can be
achieved.
Have a great week,
Dave Pitcairn.
