Camera Framing

When you are looking at a shot, consider:

What you see in the shot; How far the camera is from the subject; The angle the shot is taken at.

Camera shot conventions

Close-ups show emotion, or focus attention on a certain action or object.

Long shots establish setting.

Camera Movement

Pan - camera moves from side to side from a fixed axis.

Tilt - camera moves up and down from a fixed axis

Crane - camera mounted on a crane, moves at a distance above ground level

Track - camera follows action, moving along tracks laid for the purpose, often pulling back from the scene.

Camera Movement cont.

Hand held camera - results in shaky footage.

Steadicam - camera strapped to camera operator, allowing movement through 360˚
